Reds, without being re-sealed (like vacuum sealed), are usually "good" for a few days. Whites start to change their taste as soon as they hit air, and by the next day taste totally different. I have a wine vacuum which has a stopper and a device that pulls all the oxygen out of the bottle. it helps keep the wine's fresh taste longer. It certainly helps me keep a bottle longer. I would suggest getting one of those. Well worth the minimal investment.

A bottle of wine with a cork in it should be kept in the dark at it will last for ever..light activates the yeast and eventually the wine will turn to vinegar.Once this wine has had oxygen introduced to it ..even if you put the cork back on the wine will stay good for maybe a day or so at most..

Dont know why your wine was stale after being opened just a few days and cork was in it. Unless the handling care was improper before you received it. As air is allowed to reach the liquid, the wine begins to deteriorate, resulting in a loss of quality. Wine with lifeless, stagnant qualities. Usually found in wines that were kept in large vessel storage for an excessive length of time.
Thus, the wine becomes "flat" and lacks the aroma and flavor desired for the beverage.
I would contact the maker and tell them your experience and see if they send you another bottle.

You know its bad when it tastes like vinegar. The wine authorities recommend finishing the bottle when it is opened. However if you re-cork it tightly, you can hold it until the next day.

With Red, you get a vinegar taste or the balance tastes off. Its pretty easy to tell.
I buy bags of wine now and find they last a lot longer once opened (at least 4 or 5 days).
