my documents appear to have double spacing by default. I changed it single spacing in the paragraphs section but it doesn't change. I have office 2007 enterprise. Any suggestions?

It looks like your default style has changed somehow.

Click on "Format" and choose "Styles and Formatting"

A dialog box should open on the right side of the screen. Either click on the arrowhead on the right of "Normal" or right click on "Normal" and then choose "Modify". Ensure single spacing is selected (first set of double lines) and click on OK.

Exit and reopen Word and check to see if the change has taken place.

Hope this helps.

Word is over aggressive in its attempts to 'help' you. You can format a line for a specific font, size, and spacing, but when you hit 'enter' the next line will still be default.

What you want to do in this case is highlight the entire document, THEN change it to single spacing in the paragraphs section.
