I have an English Bulldog and I ran into someone in the dog park yesterday with a "miniature bulldog" puppy that they just got from a breeder in Florida. I've heard about these, but it seems like a scam to me. What does everyone else know/think?

No, they aren't an actual breed. They are simply, just like "teacup" a sales tactic used by irresponsible breeders to sell either runts or dogs breed smaller then the breed standard.

well, if they are a "breed", they are not recognized by the akc. the akc says that bulldogs should be between 45-55 pounds depending on their gender. they have smaller dogs, but we all know they are called french bulldogs. smaller real bulldogs are only going to cause a problem, less room for their already smashed breathing organs. i'm not sure why we play god and create animals just because we want them smaller!!

A quick internet search tells me that they do exist, and that there is even a National Club and a Standard for them.

WHY they would force size issues into a breed that is so artificial and already has more than its share of health problems? That I don't know. Money is my first guess.
