So, I accidentally misspoke out of habit and asked for type X of product.
I said that "I meant the Y type of the product".
The clerk said "You did say X type of product".
I said "I know. I meant to ask for Y type of product".
(It was a force of habit mistake.)
When she went for the Y type of the product, she get's pissy and say's "Are you sure you want this type?"
Yeah, she seemed to have a weight issue and doing anything more than what she had to do seemed so stressful.
(I've never seen nor spoke to this woman in my life)
I just got my stuff and left.
I should have smarted off and said "Take it all back, I have decided to take my business elsewhere".
Yeah, that is why I don't prefer being social.
Simple things get so complicated.
I seem to meet these people with issues all the time.
So, when did the clerk become more important than the convenience?

P.S.
I said nothing about her weight issue!
I never bring that up!
Though I have witnessed that those with weight issues are less likely to do anything that is even remotely considered exercise.

the problem is; you're in a convenience store. The cashiers aren't exactly qualified to get a job at the local engineering firm and probably are little pissed about it. And, in their defense, they do have to deal w/ jerkoffs all day, so they usually aren't that compromising. As to taking your bus. elsewhere; we've all said it with good intent to do so, but that's where the 'convenience' comes in. That store is probably on your way to your job or something. Besides, they don't give a sh!t anyway if you do. I feel your pain, but that's life in the USA. You're just going to have to learn to deal w/ it. Check out the movie "Clerks". It may help you through your dilemma.
Bad girl-I read your comment and feel the need to respond. No offense at all meant. 1st. asking a quick store clerk if she's having a bad day may not be the wisest thing to do-she very well may tell you to F off or give you a left hook-a dirty look if nothing else. Yes, be nice to her, maybe a little joke. 2nd. Quick store clerks aren't paid to be nice. They are paid to a) keep people from stealing and- b) not to steal(too much). I have also worked in the service industry.

I'm glad you didn't bring her weight into it. That's too easy and might not have anything to do with it.
I just hate it when you make an innocent mistake and get reamed for it. They obviously have something going on that's made them miserable and no matter what it is, they have no right to take it out on someone else.
You probably did the right thing by not responding in kind, although it's eating you up a bit (it would me as well). Not being someone who's good with the comebacks in these situations, I would have done the same thing.
About all you can do is either avoid the place, or give her another shot. If she's nice next time, you can always say "glad to see you're having a better day." If she's still cranky, you can prepare yourself ahead of time to be rude first (yes, that's mean but so what).
Just say "is it ok if I buy this or .... ?"

I would have simply asked her, "Having a bad day?" and if she had been rude again I would have told her I wasn't interested in that store anymore. You would be amazed at how well empathy works to soothe the savage store clerk! I work in the service industry and I never understand clerks who are rude to people. You are being paid to be nice, BE NICE! The only exception is if a customer ever says something inexcusably rude, like a sexual comment. The only thing I have to disagree with in your question there is that her weight should not have been brought into the equation. Being overweight has nothing to do with being nice or not.

You are the only one with issues. She was just making sure she heard you correctly.
I've worked in a convenience store and I know that people say and do the rudest things to us as if we are not worthy of being called human. You thought she had a weight issue? Did you somehow think you were the only one aware of it? She wanted to make sure she heard you correctly and you were noticing her weight and thinking ill of her.
You are wrong and the clerk was trying to be sure and get you what you wanted.
I think you should go back and apologize for being so rude to her. She doesn't make much money and you probably hurt her feelings.

Sounds as though the clerk is exasperated (probably the exciting job). Just plain bad manners.
Personally, I would have bought the whatever, and thank her and tell her to have a really great day; or,not buy it and leave; or, say "yes, I am sure, but without the attitude" then you would probably have to run for it - hopefully laughing all the way.
Don't let the small stuff get to you, have fun with it instead.

Life is waaaay to short to spend your energy worrying about stuff like that..it's over...get over it...go on with your life...
Did you ever stop to think the clerk may have just had something bad happen in her life? I'm not excusing bad behavior..but lighten up! When someone acts like that towards me, I leave them with a smile, a kind word, and sometimes, a puzzled look that someone was nice to them when they weren't too nice to me...

you need to realize most people in this world have major personal issues and you shouldn't waste any of your energy on negative people. forget about it and move on, i'm sure you have more important things to deal with than some fat cow at the 7-11, who hates life.
