I don't know I think it varies between states, I know that in Maryland you can only bring back 2 packs of cigarettes if you are traveling from Virginia or they will fine you, Virginia has the lowest cigarette tax in the USA and Maryland has one of the highest

There is a PDF document/brochure with the info on HM Customs & Excise website.

Flying abroad? Bringing back cigarettes or alcohol? (Acrobat PDF, 79KB)

Briefly: (from within EU) :

If you bring back large quantities of alcohol or
tobacco goods and are stopped by Customs you may
be asked some basic questions about your trip and
purchases. You are particularly likely to be asked questions
if you have more than:
•3200 cigarettes •400 cigarillos
•200 cigars •3kg of smoking tobacco
•110 litres of beer •10 litres of spirits
•90 litres of wine •20 litres of fortified wine
(such as port or sherry)
These are only guide levels based on European law
and Customs do NOT enforce any absolute limits.

Think the rules are 200 from non EU countries and supposedly unlimited from EU countries but when i've been to Greece the limit is 3200. Anymore than that and i suppose they assume you're taking them home to sell.

Legally, you can bring as much back as you want if it's for personal use. However, customs guidelines say that 3200 cigarettes is enough for personal use. Take a look at the Customs website if you need more info.

As I already said, there are no limits within the European Union. (ONLY if you travel from canary islands, Czech rep., latvia, lithuania, estonia, poland, slovakia, slovenia, then you can only bring 200 cigarettes.)

But I guess you'll have to pay if your suitcase is heavier than 20kg.

No limit in the EU...so long as it all for personal use, not gifts, not for selling to your mates.

Think how much you wil use between trips.
