If you don't have an agenda or place to write down your assignments I would suggest getting one as your first step.

Being organized is one of the most helpful tools you can learn.

Make sure every assignment is written down in the agenda during each class. Don't forget to include test dates in your agenda too so you won't forget to study for them.

Keep your notebooks organized so you can quickly find things. Get dividers for every subject.

Take notes in class. This may seem difficult at first, but you will get the hang of it. Write down any important information the teacher is saying.

Each night review what was discussed in class that day. Read any notes you took and make sure you are reading the chapter material as it is assigned.

Do your homework as soon as you get home from school. If there is something you don't understand ask a parent for help or call a classmate or go to the teacher first thing the next day or class and tell him/her that you don't understand something and ask for extra help with it. You will be surprised how many teachers are willing to help you if they feel you are trying.

Turn all work in on time - especially homework or projects.

Before a test date start studying all of the notes you have taken in class, read the chapter material that is being tested and study any handout sheets or review sheets the teacher has given you.

Read at least 30 minutes a night - every night. Find something that is interesting to you and read it. Reading will help you in every subject.

Make sure you are at school every day and that you are paying attention to the teacher. If you don't understand something ask for help right then.

If you try all of this and still feel you are failing - you may need to ask your parents for private tutoring or talk to your teachers about going into school early or staying late to give you extra help. Most will be more than willing to help you.

You have to make school your priority until you can get your grades up. Do everything possible and you won't fail. It is up to you. You need to learn these things before going into high school.

Remember to choose your time wisely. Plan to devote most of your time to studying instead of watching TV, playing games, or playing with friends. Seek help. If you know you need help in a certain subject, ask you teacher to tutor you before or after school. Get help from classmates or older ones who are great in the subject(s) you need help in. If you are NOT already being served through special education, talk to your school counselor and ask if he/she thinks you should be tested. Explain fully what you struggle with...reading, basic math skills, following directions, comprehension skills, etc. The counselor is your best source of help!!!!

By the way, I am a school teacher, so I believe my advice is very accurate. Please understand that at this point in the school year, it may be too late for getting your grades up in time to pass 8th grade. I don't want to discourage you, but I want to make sure you understand the reality of all this.

Here are the questions you need to ask yourself to decide what type of help you actually need at this point: Are you struggling because you really don't understand your subjects? Are you struggling because you feel bored and unmotivated to do the work? Are you struggling because you are too busy partying or having other fun with friends to devote enough time to your studies? Are you struggling because there are things going on in your life that are difficult to deal with and that preoccupy your time?

Once you know why you are struggling, it will be so much easier to seek help from those around you.

Well, the one good place to start is to change your study habits. Instead of playing video games or playing with friends, study. Do your homework. It's given to you so you can practice. It takes hard work and dedication, but if you focus, you can do it.

study everyday. whatever you learned that day go over it again when you get home. if you need help ask for it. stay after or go to study hall even if you really don't need but it keeps your skills sharp.
