Your pup is pretty old, in dog years. It could definitely be a tumor of sorts. My only question for you is how fast did it pop up. You called it really big, but yet, have you noticed it before? If it's really big it stands to reason that it started out small and grew over time. Anyway, you should definitely see a vet, they can biopsy it and remove it if necessary. Don't wait because tumors can get to be very big and the whole problem with tumors is their crazy fast growth. If you wait it will only get worse, not go away. I am a veterinary assistant, and I once saw a dog come in 21 pounds and leave 12 pounds after a tumor removal. The tumor had grown to almost half his body weight. Get it checked out. Worst case scenario, it is nothing bad, just an infection or a bug bite or something, but you can at least rest easy that you know your baby will be ok. Please make a vet appointment as soon as you can.

Ingestion of rat poison will cause a large lump called a hematoma. If you have it around the house or she's been out in the neighborhood, bring her to the vet right away. It can be fatal but if treated in time the outcome is good. If there is absolutly no chance of exposure to poisons, then I wonder about an injury. Did her leg get hit by something hard? I assume you would have mentioned that and know that trauma can cause a huge lump. Make sure no one in your house doesn't know anything they aren't telling you, like if she escaped the house and was free in the neighborhood or something hit / fell on her. In any case, I don't think you're gonna get out of bringing her to the vet. I wouldn't have a wait and see approach with this one. Good luck.
edit - if her lump is movable, can break up a little and isn't round, it's probably a hematoma. Get to the vet asap. If it's perfectly round, hard and not movable, then it's probably a tumor of some sort ( not necessarily cancerous). It's not usually an urgent emergency. I really hope it turns out alright. Try and let me know how it goes. Good luck.

Check the lump. If it's solid and immoble or hard to move, it could be a wart, tumor, or a muscle injury. If it's soft and movable, it's most likely a fatty cyst, which don't always require removal unless it's an obvious bother to your dog. My 12 year old lab has a fatty cyst on her stomach that doesn't bother her at all, so the vet said to just let it be. The only time I can tell that it's there is if she manages to overeat, which makes her look like a yellow barrel, lol.

This can be anything from a cancerous or benign tumour to a fatty lump or even a enlarged muscle in her hind leg. Its always advisable to take your dog to the vet for a examination to rule out cancer or anything serious. Don't delay seeing a vet because if its cancer treatment needs to start NOW. Good luck

Older dogs tend to get cysts which are small, harmless tumors as they age. My dog's got a few. You should get a vet appointment as soon as possible though. Cancer kills half of older pets(dogs and cats alike) and is common in Shepherds. If the bump has grown any, call the vet and get an appointment immediately. Cysts don't grow very big.

Well first of all can you move this bump around ..grab it gently and see if you can move it around if you can chances are it's a syst..so you will have to bring your pooch to the vets to have it removed..If you can't move it then it may be a pulled muscle ..but either way take the time and have your pet checked by a vet.I know it's money some people can't afford but it's a responsibility that comes with having a pet.alot of people just get pets not thinking of what they are getting into..for me my two pooches are like my kids and there is nothing i wouldn't do for them..

You need to be taking your dog to the vet to get a correct diagnosis of this problem.
Dogs can have various type of lumps and tumors ranging from fatty tumors which are non- threatening to cancerous growths.
We cannot diagnose your dogs problem on here, you need professional help for her, if it is a cancerous tumors she needs help immediately in order to save her leg, and possibly her life.
Get off of the computer and get her to a vet immediately! Good luck and have a good day.

She might have a fatty cyst which doesn't need treatment if it's not impeding her movement or bothering her in any way. It might be something else that does need treatment. The only way to know with any certainty is to take her to see her veterinarian.
Good luck!

My poodle had a lump on her leg. This dog has cancer or a huge wart. If it is a wart, she isn't in any pain. If you want it removed, take her to the vet's.
If it's not a wart, take her to the vet immediatly. She is certain to die or if you catch it in time she'll be OK.
