It is not just outlined in black but filled in as well, so it is not just thin lines to cover. does anyone know if it can be done?

sorry, unless it is extremely faded you will not be able to have it covered with color. most tattoos that need to cover up something like you are talking about have to be much larger than the original tattoo and incorporate something black in it that can be tattooed over the old one. sorry, that's just the way it is! i have recently had a black tattoo covered up... with a rock. it's not just a stand alone rock or anything tho, it is going to be part of a MUCH larger tattoo.
also, be sure that you go to an artist that is experienced at doing coverup tattoos. not all artists are good at them. it is horrible to have a bad coverup.

Dude it would be hard to answer this question without looking at your tattoo but even if black IS the only color that can go over it so what? Go to www.tattooartists.org click on tattoos by theme and then click on cover ups.... They have almost 400 examples of cover ups. I am getting cover up work done next month so I have been doing my research....if you have a tattoo...no matter what it is.....It CAN be covered up.....Just pick someone who specializes in this field.

No unfortunately the black will show through the color. But one thing you can do is change the shape of whatever it is you have. It will have to be a little bigger though in order to cover the actual first tatoo. Good luck!

no, it can't. you can get it lightened with laser, then put something with color. but you'll definately have to lighten it first.
