Treatmen really depends on how severe it is.

Luxating patella is caused when the dog's "knee joint" isn't deep enough for the "kneecap". This will cause the kneecap to pop out of place.

In cases that aren't very severe, limiting certain activities can be enough treatment. In severe cases surgery is recommended to correct the size of the groove in the knee joint that the kneecap sits in.

This is a genetic disease, and any dog diagnosed with it, should never be bred. Your dog may not have a very severe case of it, but over time the possibility of your dog's descendants to get severe cases increases.

THIS IS COMMON IN SMALL DOGS. DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT SURGERY IS THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM. AT THE OFFICE WHERE I WORK IT IS A VERY COMMON THING THAT WE SEE OFTEN. JUST FIND A GOOD VET, MINE IS THE BEST !!!!! AND YOUR DOG WILL NEED LOTS OF REST AFTER THE SURGERY. I WOULD TAKE MY DOG IN FOR THE INITIAL VISIT AND GET A PRICE OF THE SURGERY ALSO AS SOME SURGERIES CAN BE VERY COSTLY. IT MAY BE WHERE YOU CAN PREPAY FOR THE SURGERY OR WORK SOMETHING OUT. GOOD LUCK

You dog needs to have surgery to fix this problem. I have seen this a number of times in our vet clinic. Your dog should have surgery to fix the problem then will have 12 weeks of PT to fully heal. Talk with you vet about it. Some vets know how to do the surgery, but usually you have to go to see a specilest.

Good luck with you dog.

I have no idea about dogs, but the term that you're looking for is subluxation. Try searching again.
