It actually goes "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, but vengence is mine sayeth the Lord"
If someone hurts you - it is better to turn the other cheek and walk away. You are then the bigger person and in the right!!

I've never really understood how "an eye for an eye" can be weighed up against "vengence is mine, sayeth the Lord", which infers that humans have no place in taking vengence against wrong-doers.
Btw, if someone "bloody murders you", it'd be physically impossible to turn the other cheek, unless the pherensic cops turned you over...

This is asking whether it is right to take revenge on somebody who does you wrong.
Its a hard answer but no you should not take revenge. You should turn the other cheek . This is easier said than done because of our human nature .
We should organise our society so that we can make laws to deal with injustice. Society as a whole should not turn the other cheek.

eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth is old testament law. Once Christ came and died on the cross, the old testament law became irrelavent and the teachings of Christ, turn the other cheek, should be followed. But, I don't think Christ wanted Christians to be pansies. I think He preaches restraint first. But if I am being beat down by someone, I am going to try to defend myself and not just let myself take a beatdown.

To forgive someone who harms you doesn't mean allowing them to escape punishment. They are not one and the same. If you hurt me (as in assault), I will report you to the proper authorities, but will strive not to hold on to bitterness. Also forgiveness and "turning the other cheek" don't mean the same thing. Turning the other cheek means exposing oneself to further harm (like say continuing a relationship with someone who has broken my heart, not someone who will kill me). The Bible says there is no limit to how many times we are to forgive, but how many cheeks does a person has?

turn the other cheek = those who use a sword against thee shall not prosper - ....
christian or non christian you'll always be up against crap getting hurt - its how you choose to deal with it, for a christian the Bible has many pages of advice for many seasons in their life and its all about seeking that advice and dealing with it accordingly. We're still human

In my experience, they take an eye if you look at them in a slightly wrong way, a tooth if you say something that they don't like and break your limbs if you actually dare to do something.
If you believe in something else they used to burn you on a stake.
That doesn't sound like "turn the other cheek", does it.

I'm not Christian, but I do the revenge one. If someone stabs out my eye, they're losing an eye. And also a genital.
