A good photographer can do some amazing things with even the most basic equipment. You certainly have talent and my critical eye would say the photos in your gallery range from snapshots with issues around white balance and exposure to some really nice stuff where you just nailed everything about the photo. Be as serious as you want to be and have fun with it. The more I learn the less I know. As for expensive equipment - maybe that is a reward for when you have mastered less expensive equipment. It will certainly help if you can afford it, but I would be careful about putting to much emphasis on equipment. You've already got some great shots in your gallery with what I am assuming is less expensive equipment, so keep at it!

There are some good photos there, with the only minor criticism that you probably should show some more range. As for "expensive equipment", it's the product that counts. If you really want to try it though, you could hire (or borrow if you know a pro) before investing a lot of money in something that you mightn't be as comfortable with. Don't lose faith though, and keep building a more diverse portfolio.

You have some real gems that show true talent and vision. Mixed in with the good, you have lots of average images and a few duds.
If you are showing a portfolio, you must be ruthless and eliminate anything that isn't stellar in every way. In your flickr portfolio, you have some obvious exposure and lighting problems, and some images that just aren't very interesting. Also more than a few with bad, cluttered backgrounds.
I think you do need better equipment, you need to be able to use selective focus. Many of your images have too much depth of field, especially the portraits.
I do believe you have a good eye, and a decent grasp of composition. Invest in a dSLR and at least one decent lens. Get a book, "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. Then go shoot some more!
Best of luck to you!

I think you're a decent photographer your photos are very bright and cheery perhaps you'd make a good nature photographer if i were to make any criticism it'd be that you need more range in your photos best of luck and just because you dont get one job doesnt mean you cant try for another but you'd need a more varied portfolio than that and some expensive equipment is relative to where you're trying to get hired

You already have what you need to go pro. The equipment doesn't make the photo, the photographer does. As long as you have a good eye for it, you're on the right track.

you are a good photographer.. although they feel more like pictures that photos.. in other words... more snap shots than professional. The lighthouse is a beautiful photograph. There is always room for improvement for any photographer.. I would take a class, work with lighting more and concepts..
Keep up the good work!

I think you are excellent! Very natural eye for direction, lighting and framing. I am finishing my MBA right now but intend to begin working with photography as a business soon. Don't give up.

You may want to try to get a larger array of subjects for your portfolio, different people, lighter/darker, close ups, etc. You want to show that you are diverse.
