I would go to www.apartmentratings.com to see what other people think of apartments in that area. You can also call the local police department regarding the crime rate in that area.
To see rental rates there are various apartment search websites (see below)

Then you plan to move in the Margate/Coconut Creek area. My father lives in that area. Rent-wise, you are looking to $850.00 to $1,050.00 for 1-2 bedrooms. They are very quiet, and family orientated. Beware! Some developments do not include water with the rent. Try a rent-free Realtor office. There are a lot of nice (and decent) condo/townhouses between those two areas. If you visit a rent-free Realtor, they may recommend that you may rent from the owner of a condo or townhouse and that you could pay less rent than a traditional leasing company who rents apartments. In addition, as long as you are a good tenant, you may sign a contract with the owner that is negotiable regarding how long you plan to live in that home.

Move to Wauchula FL thats where I live it is better than Fort Lauderdale. Parks, Cafes, Emily Ray Jewlery, Cat's Corner, Sweetbay, Wal*Mart. there is alot more places here in Wauchula FL.
