I'm just thinking about all the cars that have to slow down then acellerate to get past them. Driving like that increases fuel consumption so whilst the person on the bike isn't contributing to emissions they are causing everyone that passes them to add more!

Or am I talking guff?

That's interesting, never looked at it that way.

But we do need people to think outside the box a bit if we are to come up with good ways of reducing carbon emmisions.

But I'm thinking that maybe the amount of saved CO2 emissions (froma person not using thier car) may outweigh the extra from other cars slowing to accellerate again.

If all parts of the bicycle (tires, metal frame, plastic bits) were recycled at the end of its life it would mean an even greater benefit to the environment.

Its a double edged sword. If everyone drove then thats bad for the environment BUT if everyone cycled well everyone will need new bikes and factories will have to make them blah blah blah... it goes on and on. Given the choice I would go with the latter. I'm sick of seeing fat people wobbling around outside takeaways and complaining the NHS won't fit their gastric band soon enough. Fat people use more air anyway.

Why not repaint the road markings to make roads into cycle paths and ban cars altogether - that would get the nation very healthy very quickley and cut carbon emmisions dramatically -

PS we're both talking guff!!

Cycling, rather than using a car. Cars produce lots of greenhouse gases, and don't really take much notice of cyclists, you practically get blown off the road if you cycle where there is any traffic, which is virtually everywhere.

isnt it gorgeous? now theyre next to every road, with the exception of freeways here. and should americans ever decide to start cycling to the mac or kfc. you might see similar paths apear in the us.

if everyone started cycling it would reduce global emissions with atleast 20%

The cyclist causes CO2 pollution by breathing.

i have never thought of that, but i cant understand why cyclists choose to go on the road,or why they are allowed.it certainly is not easy for cars trying to get past them.i think it is sooo wrong for bikes to be on the road.
