26 things to do in Bangkok & Central Thailand:-

1) Grand Palace
2) Vimanmek Mansion (royal palace)

5) Dreamworld - amusement park (includes snow dome & grown-ups size go-kart track, rollercoasters, etc.)
6) Day trip to a Floating Market

24) Suan Pakkad Palace
25) Golden Mount
26) The Royal Barges Museum

[Added 1 day later:-

I don't claim to be an expert on travelling outside the Bangkok and Central Thailand area (where I live) but below are some of the places I have been to in the rest of Thailand that I think fall into the 'must see' catagory.

North-East Thailand (Isan)
1) Phimai - Angkor Temple complex (also Phimai National Museum and Sai Ngam - Banyan tree).
2) Buriram (Prasat Hin Lhao Phanom Rung Historical Park) - another Angkor Temple complex - bigger than Phimai but harder to get to.
3) Prasat Meuang Tam - not far away from Prasat Rung - not sure how you will be there without a car. I remember there were some motorcycle riders offering rides for a price, but not so cheap.

North Thailand (Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai)
1) Doi Inthanon - the highest mountain in Thailand (in Doi Inthanon National Park)
2) Waterfalls in Doi Inthanon National Park
3) Doi Tung (Doi Tung Royal Villa, Mae Fah Luang Garden)
4) Golden Triangle tour - the view from the hill of the river where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet ranks as a must see.
5) (Probably) Hill Tribes Tour (normally part of a Golden Triangle Tour) - more of a cultural awareness thing rather than a must see.

Some people also recommend Chiang Mai Zoo. I am sure its very nice. I think there are a lot of places to see animals in and around Bangkok:- Safari World, Dusit Zoo, Siam Underwater world, Khao Yai National park, (even Dreamworld & Ayutthaya (Ayudhya) have elepant rides), Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm & Zoo, Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute (Snake Farm, Bangkok). Even, Muang Boran, that doesn't even promote istelf as a place to see animals has a deer reserve for Hog Deer, sometimes they can also be seen wandering around the 'ancient' monuments.

South Central Thailand
1) Phra Ramarajnivet Palace, Petchaburi
2) Phra Nakhom Khiri Palace, Petchaburi
3) Hua-Hin beach
4) Wat Khoa Takiep, Hua-Hin - if you are in Hua-Hin anyway, its worth going to as it a pretty hill-top temple. There is a Traditional Thai design part to the temple, but, in addition, slightly down the hill, near to the cliff, there is an interesting Chinese part. Also, there are lots of naughty monkeys within the grounds of the temple too.

South Thailand
For the south I guess I should recommend an island. Beaches are an individual thing. Some people want a deserted beach, some prefer lots of people, bars and organised things to do, jet-skis, etc. However, my favourite, for what its worth, is Koh Phi-Phi as it has the most beautiful beaches. For an island closer to Bangkok, Ko Samet (National Park) is popular, especially post-tsunami as its in the Gulf of Thailand rather than off the west coast, but I don't particularly recommend the beach at Hat Sai Kaew where the cheap Baht1,000 a night bungalows are. Hat Ao Prao on the west part of the island is much nicer. However, generally, its more expensive to stay there.

Finally, one extra place Bangkok/Central Thailand - The Erawan Museum. ]

Hi, look through www.tourismthailand.org on the various destinations within Thailand. There are 76 provinces and each of them has their own attractions. Generally, the various types of attractions you can find are beaches and islands in the south and east, mountains to the north and northeast. Around some of the provinces, there are ancient ruins, like Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Surin, etc. Nature reserves are all over the country. Agriculture are mostly in the northeast and the north.

So do take some time to know what you like to see in Thailand. The more popular destinations are Bangkok, Chiangmai, Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui etc. So what interest you?

um, the people above listed a lot of places but i have a few that i would recommend:

-Chiang Mai and surrounding areas: Northern Thailand has so much to offer, Chiang Mai is not a big city like Bangkok but it is a city. They have a great Night Bazaar, lots of amazing resturants, Wat Doi Sutep, and many other things. There are also many day trips of the surrounding areas; and elephant park, Pai (a great little touristy town), and many amazing temples.

-The Islands; each island offers it's own benefits. If you want to learn how to scuba dive go to Koh Tao. If you want to party go to a full moon party on Koh Phangan. Ko Samui is a beautiful island as well. If you have time go ahead and island hop that way you'll get the best of all of them. Just be aware that the islands are very touristy and a little more expensive than other areas in Thailand.

-Bangkok is a fun city to visit. There are great things to see like the Grand Palace, Koh San Rd (lots of touristy shops and resturants), Siam Paragon, and pretty much anything you could want.

-Sukhothai is a great place to go for a day (there's not much around it) but it's a great place to spend a day riding a bike around a bunch of old ruins. They are really amazingly beautiful.

There are a lot of great things to see in Thailand, where ever you go you'll love it!

The beaches in the south, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in the north, don't spend much time in BKK, wait until you are leaving to see BKK. I like Samui for relaxing and getting a tan, diving etc. and Chiang Mai for shopping.
