I have heard of klonopin and given it as an RN, how I feel about it would depend on a lot of factors, the reason it was prescribed, (it's used for a variety of reasons, as an anti-anxiety med, and as an anti-seizure med), also the age of the patient and what other meds they are taking and if they have tried other meds, or other treatments for their condition. If you like, you can email me with more details, it's up to you.

I take Klonopin sometimes three times a day - atleast that's how it's prescribed. I started out taking it to help me sleep but had some other problems so it was increased to three times a day. I haven't seen any problems with it so I think it's at least as safe as anything else. All meds have side effects so if you develop anything out of the norm, call your physician and stop taking it.
Meds affect everyone differently but I think Klonopin is an OK drug.

Klonopin, (clonazepam) is part of a family of drugs known as benzodiazepenes.....this group of drugs also includes Valium, Xanax, Ativan, etc. They are controlled substance drugs typically used to treat anxiety disorders. Clonazepam has a less sedative effect than diazepam but tends to deliver a more euphoric side effect and tends to be more addictive and can have a pretty wide variety of unwanted side effects expecially with higher doses. It is also highly advisable to taper off this drug rather than discontinuing it abruptly. Alcohol and other sedative medications should be avoided.
As a personal aside, my husband had been using Klon when we first met. If he missed mor than 2 doses in a row, he would go from exhausted to agitated to rage within a few hours. He suffered frequent bouts of erectile dysfunction and modd swings that make PMS seem like a dream.
I urged him to go to his doctor and get off Klonopin and onto something else. We took three weeks to taper off the Klon and got him onto a non-benzodiazepene anti-depressent/anxiety medication with which he is much more stable.
I personally do not like Klonopin. I think there are many other prescription options that I would try before I ever agreed to get started with this drug. If your doctor prescribed this for you, get a second and third opinion. Also. talk to your pharmacist and read the package insert together so you understand what this drug is and how it works before starting therapy.

My G/F takes this from time to time to calm her anxiety. She's in a very stressful job and thinks the agency is looking to dump her before she can retire. It seems to be O.K. in moderation. :-)=
