I'm hopefully moving to the UK next year, where would you suggest I live? I love visiting London, but I don't know where the best residential areas are. I know it's an expensive city, but I'm looking for a reasonably priced one bedroom flat in a decent area. Other places I'm looking into are Edinburgh, Glasgow, Canterbury, Bristol, and Brighton. Also, what other cities would you suggest looking into?

its all depends what your into but i would avaoid the south (south of Birmingham) like the plague (they still have it). seriously, the south east is a building site, some nice places but expensive and overcrowded. The south West is beautiful, but due to people in South east buying second homes there has become unbelievably expensive.
Birmingham, Britains argued second city has everything you would ever want and reasonably priced, and easy to get everywhere in UK. Shopping great and sport good.
Manchester, Britains other argued second city, is cosmopolitan with shops, but i find it not quite there and drinking is expensive in the city. You are also very close to Penines for the countryside
Liverpool is my favourite city, has some dodgy areas but others (esp in south of city)n are very nice. sport fantastic, shopping great and getting better, close to Penines still, but also have Wales (north wales) on your doorstep. might not be able to understand locals though.
Leeds, great for shopping, jobs, close to Penines again
Sheffield, industrial but ok
Nottingham, good looking, ok transport, good facilities
Cardiff. nice hub, good shops entertainment and some really nice areas to live.

hope that is some help

do some good research into North though, better prices, good facilities and of course friendly people

If I where in the situation you are in, I would definately move to Edinburgh. This old city is the perfect place for a new comer of the U.K. to live. You mentioned that you love London, so you could live here and still get the city life, but also get the history and culture. Edinburgh is nowhere near as crowded as London and you can find homes for a lot cheaper. I would suggest looking at housing prices online and hopefully you can find a good deal. Best of luck to you

Having just moved to Florida from Cardiff (the capital city of Wales)... I would have to say to give there a go.

It is a medium sized 250k people beautiful city that is fast growing. Rent will be depending on area you choose... There are universities/jobs/nightlife/parks/very cosmopolitan ..... take a look at Cardiff's website.. and crime is not bad, people are friendly and good commute to north and south of country as well as Ireland... good luck x

I really like Norwich, it is a very nice city. Not too far from London either, only about 1.5 hr train ride.
