Hi, I'm American and live in Italy. I can tell you, Italian men are like all other men around the world. Some are really good looking, some are average looking and some are plain ugly. Some are great in bed, some are okay in bed, and some are not. I have noticed that a lot of American and foreign women have this image of Italians as being really really hot and great in bed. I met this English girl once who lived in Italy for 1 year...well, during that year no Italian guy asked her out. She told me she was going to tell her friends back home that a lot of Italian guys "threw" themselves at her because her friends back home wouldn't believe her if she told them the truth. I thought this was pretty funny.

No. That's a cultural misconception on the part of both parties. On the one hand you have people who believe that American women are infatuated with Italian men, on the other hand you have American women who Are infatuated with Italian men for no other reason than because it is conceived to be popular to be infatuated in that regard. Both groups represent a very small portion of the population of both countries.

I like... American Italian men.
Italian men are very mothered... so they're very needy... "Omg. He needs me!" That's they most have trouble leaving home until they get married.
Italian men also portray that... Hardcore ... real man feel. Think of Ray Leoda (I know I butchered that name...), Henry Hill from Goodfellas. He takes care of business. He's a don't "fork" with me kinda guy. He's man.
So Italians are both sissy(sorry) and manly at the same time.
Italians are lovers.
Italians are known for being great cooks.
My neighbor is one of the cutest little Italian man I've ever seen. I'm trying hard to catch that fish.

We aren't infatuated with Italian men or any other ethnicity for that matter. We like men for WHO they are, not WHAT they are.
