On average the test itself costs about $30 and can be done right at your vets office. Most vets offices use what's called the Snap test and you get the results in less than 10 minutes. This is definitely a test that should be done at their annual check ups.

Around here it cost about $12 for the test.

If your puppy is under 6 months, the test isn't needed. It takes heartworm that long to develop and starting the preventative during that time won't hurt.

If over 6 months the test needs to be done, starting the preventative if the dog is positive for heartworm could be very disastrous for the dog.

It probably depends on where you live.
Our vet charges $47, but the test checks for 4 blood parasites. Heartworm alone can cost from $15-$30, depending on which type of test is being used. the $15 test checks for live worms, and can miss some. The $30 test will catch shed cells from the worms, and is more accurate.

You need to have the vet do a SNAP test on the dog (puppy) and they can run anywhere from 25-40.00 depending on the vet. It is important that this test, and not just checking blood under a microscope be done, as those tests can be inaccurate. If the dog is negative, the dog needs to be rechecked in 6 mos and yearly after that. Heartworm disease can kill a dog if left untreated.

Depends on your vet. Usually, between $30-50. It's very important to do this b/c if caught in time, heartworms are treatable. Additionally, it can be fatal to give a heartworm preventative to a dog that is heartworm positive.

AROUND HERE IT S $26.50 BUT THAT IS A DROP IN THE BUCKET COMPARED TO IF YOUR DOG CONTRACTS HEARTWORMS. THE PREVENTATIVE AVERAGES BETWEEN $22 -$45. COMPARED TO $500 TO $600 TREATMENT COST AND PLUS THE STRESS IT PUTS ON THE DOG GOING THROUGH THE TREATMENT.

It really varies from clinic to clinic. It depends if they charge you for an office call or blood draw fee - I would say anywhere from 14-75 dollars. I used to work for a vet and clients would call all of the time for price quotes. Typically humane society clinics are cheaper in prices...

Each vet is different in pricing. My vet charges $26 for an office visit and I think $35 for the blood draw and lab. Call a couple of vets around you for prices.
