They call it bacon. Canadian bacon is not fried ham. The thing that the US tries to imitate with ham is back bacon, aka pea-meal bacon, which is cut from a different part of the hog and cured differently than regular side bacon, and has a completely different texture, look, and flavor.

we call it bacon, eh. But we do have a distinctly different canadian style bacon which is a different cut from the animal, but it is not as good as regular side bacon. Bacon in canada is milder than u.s bacon as we finish our animals on grain rather than corn or pea meal before butchering, thus less "piggy" taste.

I'm not sure. That always confused me b/c in America we call fried ham "Canadian Bacon"....so does that mean that they call fried ham bacon?
