i take a little carpet shampoo, and rub the area with it, using an old wash cloth,,,,,,, rub in each direction, it should lift/fluff it up

Try a steamer, vacuum, or shampoo, but you'll still have to wait a bit for the dents to come out. After sitting there for a long time, it takes time for the strands to regain their original shape.
I've also used a brush, but make sure it's soft as not to damage the carpet, or do it softly.

Put an ice cube in each of the dents, wait for it to melt, and then pull the fibers out with a hair pick.

I've always heard that if you put an ice cube in the dent, let it melt, and then let it dry on its own, the carpet should regain its spring in that area.

Duck tape strips...Rip them up fast..it will put up the fibers from the carpet and then vacuum
