In the long term, we might end up going back to Iraq to fix any messes we leave behind if we leave now. Best to finish the job first.

The first effect would be no more oil supplies from Iraq and within a week no more oil supplies from the whole Persian Gulf- after Iran "accidentally loses" some naval mines in the straits of Hormuz. Oil prices reach 100- 120 $ per barrel within 2 weeks- and climbing. Iran can finally afford to buy all the anti-ship missles (Russia), modern fighter jets (China) and some nukes (North Korea)...
Saudis go nuclear within the month. So does Japan and a dozen other "borderline" countries.
US pays 5 bilion $ per week on oil imports... provided anyone still accepts US currency (which I sincerely doubt). After 3 months of that, even junkies in NY would have to fork out Yen, Euros or Roubles to get a fix.
Ah, but your intentions were good? The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Nobody I know, or know of, "likes" the situation we (and innocents in Iraq) are in. But then again, we didn't "like" being involved in WWI, WWII either.
First, I have no doubt that we are in for a prolonged fight for our way of life. There are people who want America, what it stands for, eliminated. EVERYONE must understand that.
As far as the mideast is concerned, the one thing we can do to regain some control over our lives is to heavily invest in alternatives to petroleum based products and energy.
If the mideast loses a large portion of the oil market ...things will be different politically, environmentally and economically.

Bring them home! I totally agree with you, but you can't just order a full withdrawal. It has to be a phased withdraw because we created this mess and we should clean it up. The overall mission in Iraq needs to shift direction towards a build up of Iraqi forces, so they can defend their own country. Unfortunately, we are going to remain in Iraq for many years to come. The United States has sunk way too much money into this war to pull out now. Bush is retarded for not listening to the voters of this country and Dick Cheney is the anti-christ.

i agree with you. Stop the troop escalation. Its not going to be enough anyway. My brother got his orders to go to Iraq for a third time. He finished his enlistment and got out over a year ago.

No, because we will right back over there fighting within 6 months and the money you think we will save will be spent redeploying everyone back over there yet again.
