First you have to get a college degree in medicine which takes about 4 years. Then you do an medical internship as a general physician on the floors of a hospital, approxmately another 2 years . Then you can go on to whatever specialty field that you are interested in.
An endocrinologist is a doctor that is trained in the endocrine system. The endocrine system includes glands like the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, ovaries, testes, adrenal, pituitary and hypothalamus. Endocrinologists diagnose and treat diseases that affect your glands. Most endocrinolgists specialize in an area, like thyroid or diabetes. Endocrinologists spend 3 to 4 years in an internship and residency program. That means a total of about 10 years of training to become an endocrinologist.

With all due respect to Guy R who is correct to a point, endocrinology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the endocrine system and its specific secretions called hormones.
Although every organ system secretes and responds to hormones (including the brain, lungs, heart, intestine, skin, and the kidney), the clinical specialty of endocrinology focuses primarily on the endocrine organs, meaning the organs whose primary function is hormone secretion. These organs include the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, ovaries, testes, and pancreas.
An endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in treating disorders of the endocrine system, such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and many others (click link below to see list)

But, as Guy R asked, what exactly is it you want to know the duration of?
