I just started going to the gym and my goal is to lose 10lbs and get toned up. But, I don't want to gain all this muscles and have my weight go up. Which machines should I stick with? Which ones should I try and stay away from a bit more?

cardio, cardio, cardio, however since all that time running and whatnot is going to tone the hell out of your lower body you'll want to do *some* work on your upper body as well.

The easiest way to increase the toning of your existing muscles without adding a lot of new growth is to do very light weights with large number of reptitions.

For example, a 2-3lbs dumbell curls with 15-20 repitions, two or three sets, tops. the idea is to tire them thoroughly without damaging any of the tissue (which causes new growth)

If you stay away from machines with weights on them you 'd be fine. Do a lot of cardio at least 4 times a week and 1 hour each time or longer. My preference is running on the treadmill 2 yrs ago I shed 10 pounds on it. Have %12 body fat right now and am working to increase my overall muscle percentage so I do weight training too. Gaining muscles does not always have to mean that you'll look bulked up and unfeminine. In fact, it is pretty hard to tone up without free weights or training without using your body weight and etc. On the other hand, I should also tell you that gaining muscle is sort of a science you have to have the right strategy to achieve actual muscles (not fat). This process takes much longer than most people might guess (anywhere from 6 months to a year and depending on the amount of muscle definition it could take up to couple of years ). Ultimately, it all depends on the routine; another good cardio for you would be swimming, aerobics (can easily purchase a DVDs off the Internet these days), jumping ropes or walking if you 'd rather not run. However, running yields amazing results that is of course if you stay consistent and willing to be patient until you build stamina. I also recommend typing "exercise routines" in google search or yahoo search and you may be surprised to see how much helpful info you can get. Good luck and hope this gives you some ideas to build onto.

Try the treadmill. Walk 4 miles in an hour. Weight lifting also burns calories and actually increases the calories burned throughout the day though. If you did low amount of weights with 1 rep of 10-15 on each machine you probably will not gain a lot of muscle however this will help you lose and tone.

Muscle is your friend - it helps you burn more calories even while you are resting! Don't worry, you won't come out looking like Mr. Universe. Try to resist using the scale to guide your progress. Have the staff at the gym measure your body fat percentage and monitor it. After a few months (and with dietary adjustments) you will feel a difference and your fat percentage will drop. Add cardio but by all means keep lifting!

It’s not weight-loss, it’s health-gain. Think about your changes in an effort to gain things, not lose all of them.

If you eat when you’re harassed, try munching on pumpkin or even sunflower seeds. You’ll need to chew more, which will dissipate a number of that energy, but without including calories.

It’s Friday brunch time and you simply can’t stop going back pertaining to seconds. But hang on! Stop for a minute and suck on another strong mint. The flavour can put you off that third plate of chicken korma/roast beef/sushi medley.
