I just joined the gym and today was my first day going. I am 5'3 and 123lbs but I am really out of shape and have absolutely no endurance. I started out on the elliptical and after 6 minutes, could not do it so I went to the treadmill for 20 min. Then I did rowing for about 30 min and back to the treadmill for another 15min. Is it bad to be switching it up so much? Do you get better results if you stay with one thing or does it not matter?

Lol, well I probably will be sore tomorrow and after about two minutes on the elliptical I swear I could taste blood :P

No its ok to switch it up - you don't sound like you are in too bad of shape if you can do all that in one sitting (or you are going to be quite sore tomorrow). Mixing it up changes the muscles you use and you'll still get good results from that. Try and be consistent with your times - shoot for 10-10-10-10

No, not at all. In fact, that's a good way to begin your exercise routine. You'll want some weight exercises in there as well - and free weights are best. Have someone on the staff lead you through a series. You should be getting in weight training at least 3 X per week.

Incorporate other activities as well as your gym-going. Can you walk to the gym? Take a walk at lunchtime at work? Take the stairs instead of the elevator?

That is soooooo funny.. I started working out last Monday and did the exact same thing.. I only lasted 6 min on the elliptical.. I thought the whole gym could hear me gasping for air... I could not walk and the girl next to me last on that torture device the same amount of time as my whole time at the gym.. darn her! I was told its good to use different machines for one workout.. so I walk on treadmill 15 min. almost kill myself on elliptical for 5-10 min ( havent made it to 10 yet, though ) and the bicycle for about 10 min. and weight's mainly arms, tummy, and inner thighs, for about 5-10 min.. so u are doing good! Keep it up ! And lets try not to die today.. on that thing!

Switch as often as you like but be sure to work at your target heart rate when doing so. Otherwise you're just wasting precious workout time. Use a heart rate monitor or use one from the gym - they can teach you all you need to know.

I think it's okay. I hope you will continue to work out if that's your goal.
