why do smokers think the world is their ashtray?

I'm sick of people attacking smokers. Why shouldn't they have the personal freedom to smoke if they feel like it. I for one would rather see cig butts laying on the ground than McDonalds coffee cups and happy meal bags, which are everywhere. Honestly, when it comes to pollution, smoking is probably the last problem we need to tackle.
BTW, let's not generalize smokers. I doubt more than 1/4 of them litter. Don't call them lazy and rude. That's like saying anyone who has either ate at a fast food resteraunt is grossly obese.

I am not sure they think that. However, I wonder why drivers of huge gas guzzling vehicles think those types of vehicles make them more attractive or give them some kind of status. I bet those big pickup trucks, SUVs and huge 8 cylinder smoking coughing engines put more fumes into our air than cigarettes do. I agree with the previous answer.

Because it is cheaper and easier to pollute.
Because they are rude.
Because they don't want their car to smell like old cigarettes.
Because they don't want to have to clean their ashtray.
This is one of my pet peeves, btw. Especially when I hear smokers say "My smoking doesn't affect anyone but me."

for the comparable reason you force your vehicle daily..So why are u polluting MY air?:) Cos shall we positioned it this way.. i'm a smoker yet im no longer utilising a vehicle.. Whos polluting extra?:)

I think factories and cars, etc. are worse polluters. Although they should throw their cigarette butts away instead of just on the ground.

the same reason people drive their cars and pollute the air, the reason parents use disposable diapers knowing they will never disintegrate. People dont care.

For the record, I don't smoke, but cigarette smoke is the least of our pollution problems.
