For preference i would say it should be more desirable than the rubbish being turned out by modern manufacturers . which has no resale value.

I'm going to take a guess -- People don't like dark furniture because it makes the room (and therefore the house) dark. Of course, those of us who know a few things about interior decorating know that's not true. It's easy to make a room with dark furniture in it look lighter by painting the walls a lighter color. P.S.: I agree with you -- I would rather have the old, dark, but well-built furniture over lighter, more modern crap any day.
