I think it's mean. My chistian parents taught us this:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
Angels guard me through the night
and wake me with the morning light....
You can be christian and not be so mean to your kids....

I think it's wrong to associate death with sleep and that's what happens in this prayer. A child should be able to sleep peacefully and mixing death ,wich the child can't comprehend, with sleep doesn't seem very clever to me. Maybe the idea of some great unknown guy in the sky who can take something from you ( your soul) isn't very soothing either. I think forcing religion on a child isn't very kind at all by the way. There are other ways to teach morals and ideas about what's right and wrong. You don't need the threath of a god for that.

No, but I do think it is a morbid prayer. I have heard revised versions like : "Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
The angels watch me thru the night
Until I wake in morning's light"
I personally am a Buddhist therefore I don't make my children pray, but if I did, it would be the revised version.
EDIT: LOL Did you ever really listen to the lyrics of "Rock-a-bye Baby" ? That's a bit creepy too! Yet parents sing it to their babies all the time!

No, the prayer is asking for protection in the first part, and in the second part it's asking that should anything happen while the child sleeps, that its soul be accepted to heaven. I don't understand why someone would think it's child abuse...

I don't think I'd classify that as child abuse but I don't have my kids' say it. They pray from their heart whatever is on their mind. God will take them based on their heart anyway, not on what they say!

Maybe forcing them too.
I always thought it was a little shady to make my kids think about dying in the night. Besides, I'd rather like my kids to sleep peacefully through the night than have to wake every few hours to soothe a nightmare.

Technically, no.
I think that it is child abuse to deny a child to celebrate Halloween, or any other holiday for that matter. The courts would not agree.

Yes.
I actually think having your kid recite anything over and over is pretty stupid, maybe outside of ABCs and times tables.
Especially those Evangelical "We Believe" statements. Lord help them. ;0)
