You have to just quit. The problem with nasal decongestants is that if they're overused, they cause what's called a rebound effect, which means that eventually they will cause the very symptom you're using them to get rid of. You have become physically dependent on them because your system has built up an immunity to it. That happens with any overused medication.

It's tough but you have to quit cold turkey. An alternative is easy for those first few days that will feel aweful to you. Take 1/2 cup or so of water and add some cider vinegar to the water (how much depends on how stuffy you are. start with about an 1/8 of a cup) bring the water to just boiling then turn the heat off close your eyes and breathe deeply the vapors rising from the pan. Make sure you close your eyes because the cider smell will cause your eyes to burn. Do this a few times then follow up with some saline spray. This should help you get through the worst part of it. Also this cider vinegar works good if you are coming down with a cold it helps temendously with the stuffy head! Good Luck

You need to quit cold turkey and can never ever use nose spray like that again for the rest of your life. Throw the sprays in the trash and buy some saline nasal spray. This is safe. Use this only. The first few days will be rough but you have to remember that once you abuse those sprays you can never use them again.

You just stop using it. It is addictive--physically. You will go through about 3-5 days of being stuffed-up and then they will shrink on their own. I had a brother-in-law who used nasal sprays for over 15 years--it destroyed his sinuses. They had to do surgery and cut dead tissue out.

one thank you to alleviate a stuffy nostril is with steam. Steam from a tub, a kettle, or possibly a cup of fowl soup can help. yet, in case you certainly need to get rid of your stuffy nostril, attempt this technique. avert irritants. undemanding irritants that could stimulate mucus production comprise cigarette smoke and surprising temperature differences going from severe warmth into air con, working example. Get a steaming bowl of warm water, stick a flannel over the back of your head and stick your head in it (no longer the boiling water yet interior the bowl so the steam reaches your face) it would optimistically, unblock your nostril and you will blow all of it out
