I have the same problem with my 9 month old puppy. He is obsessed with our cat.
I always ensure that the cat can escape by leaving the room when the puppy can't - or by going up high on a shelf etc.
Cats are usually very good at taking care of themselves - my cat gives our puppy a good smack around the face when he gets too lively and the puppy has a healthy respect for the cat as a result.
It doesn't stop the puppy from trying to have a chew on the cat though - he has to learn the hard way!
If the puppy gets too excited I do have to call him away and sometimes tell him off for bugging the cat - but as the months have gone by he has been improving and I am confident that they will eventually settle down together!
Don't worry too much and just make sure that you are around to supervise their contact.

Please be careful. I have 4 cats and a 6 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback so I'm speaking from experience!

Don't let the 2 fight as the cat can very easily get the puppy in the eye with a claw and the last thing you need is an ill puppy.

Make sure that the 2 are never alone when the cat has no where to hide/escape as you really don't want to promote fighting. The other tips above are good, but don't use vinegar in the spray, not only the dog will suffer but so will you furnishings. Try to distract the dog when the cat is around so instead of chasing the cat she's chasing the toy and praise this good behaviour. Even training her to treats should keep her attention. As soon as she goes for the cat, put her in a time out. Somewhere where she can lay down and you don't let her back in until she's relaxed as attention while she's excited and chasing Tilly is promoting bad behaviour. Calm and relaxed and doing as you ask is to be praised massively and chasing Tilly is a firm no and no attention. Sky can then decide which action to take. Must enforce this every time for a speedy resolution the more times you don't do this the longer it will take

Don't fret-sooner or later she will push Tilly too far and then feline claws will teach her a lesson.

It sounds like it's just play biting and although it annoys Tilly she knows it isn't real.

If she thought it was she'd retaliate and in a fight between an almost full grown cat and a clumsy 7 month old puppy-the puppy wouldn't stand a chance.

Sky sees Tilly as just another puppy in her litter and is playing with her accordingly. Someone above mentioned a spray bottle. I've never heard of adding vinegar to the bottle, but water alone will surely do the trick (and is vinegar something you'd want in your eye? Ouch). Dogs do not like water in the face, and so Sky will definitely calm down if the consequence is water. I would only add the stinging vinegar if the water alone is not working.

If Tilly is too timid to teach the pup a lesson, you can stand in for her.
When the puppy goes for the cat, have a spray bottle handy with a mixture of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water in it. Set the spray to 'stream'.
Spray the pup with the mixture while yelling "NO" loudly. As soon as he lets off the cat, pet him and tell him he's a good dog.
Eventually he'll associate going after the cat with being sprayed with this annoying but harmless liquid and your unpleasantly loud voice.

If Tilly doesn't like the playing, she'll either leave or let Sky know she doesn't like it. If it's still bothing you, invest in a little spray bottle. I bought one at WalMart (around a dollar in the travel aisle of health and beauty), and it works wonders for getting my dogs and cats to stop doing something they shouldn't be doing. If plain water doesn't work, mix in a little lemon juice. That stops them really well!

I also have a puppy, she is 9 months now, and she chases both my cats around too. She wants to play but they don't. I have just been shouting at her each time, and the cats just smack her and hiss at her. I am hoping that one day my tom cat will just give her such a whack that she will give up!! If all else fails, punish the dog by shutting her away in a room or puppy cage for 10 minuites each time she does it. I am also trying this. We will see!!

Trust me if Tilly doesn't like it she will let Sky know. Animals have to assert themselves. You may have to watch Sky get nipped at but it will stop her in the long run. Sounds mean I know but they can handle their own problems sometimes.

Put them both on a leash and put them by each other but watch them. If the dog does anything to hurt the cat tell it no and smack it on the head a little. Do the same for the cat. The dog is most likely just playing and has no bad intentions. MY cousin had the same problem. Then my dad told her what i told u and it worked. I hope it works for u.
