lately I have been feeling lost and confused. Depression comes along with it. Is there any way to help yourself get through it without professional help?

Well I see a couple of answers are prayer and God and that would be my answer but not so easy if you are not a believer, so of course prayer but you can always try writing in a journal about whats making you sadand that way you know what days you are feeling really sad and why! Also if you have a friend you really trust try talking to a friend about it that always helps!! Or try calling a hotline they totally personal 1-800-784 2433 and willing to talk 24 hrs a day what ever it is just remember its temporary and you will start feeling better. Things you can do to just feel better stay busy go for walks pick up hobbies, or be around pets they help cheer people up , volenteer to help less fortunate then you will count your blessings good luck!!

Depression often comes from a small chemical imbalance in the brain. Many, many people suffer from it. Depression is hard as it is. Going to a doctor first to evaluate that you don't have other health issues and getting the right treatment for your depression should be considered. Sometimes talking to a therapist might just be all that you need. But in order to do that you need to talk to a doctor. Think about it. You are already feeling lost and confused and "down". Wouldn't you like to feel better? Don't you deserve to feel better? I think so. Don't think that you're the only one going through this because your not. So the quicker you get this under control the better you will feel. Hope this helps.

Make sure things get done (pay the bills, do the chores, etc) because procrastination will make you feel worse.

The key is going to be finding your new groove, respecting yourself and appreciating your life.

Try a new fitness program, take up a hobby or interest, any kind of self-improvement that you can integrate into your daily life will give you a sense of accomplishment.

If you're still young, take some classes at the college, etc.

It's best to see a psychiatrist who specializes in depression since treatment is a two pronged plan with medication and therapy.

Certainly exercise raises endorphins, the feel good hormones. Eating a healthy diet helps, too. Feeling a part of a social group helps to elevate the blues.

However, I think it's best to start with professional help to assess the degree of depression.

Good luck to you.

I remember a time in my twenties that I didn't feel right anywhere even at home with my family! it was in a transition in my life when I had finished college and had to go into the real world! it passed but at the time I didn't feel that it would! I am now taking an anxity med called lexapro! it does wonders!

Not getting professional help can be sometimes harder than it is. You have to think and see why and when you started to feel that way and work around that.

I used to live like that before I got saved. When I got saved suddenly all of the insignificant thoughts and "spam" as I like to call it left. I know people would disagree, but that is what some people need. It was definitely a deliverance I wasn't expecting. I just thought I was going crazy.

it's not easy but you have to try to do something with your mind, some physical activity, travel, etc. otherwise depression can affect you

I mean, do something that help you forget the causes of the depression

Keep yourself busy doing something, anything.

When you sit around thinking about nothing important, something insignificant will enter your head, then you will focus on that.

It is better to keep your mind occupied on something significant.
