What you choose to put on your body needs to be your choice alone. My sugestion to you would be to pick something simple. The smaller the tattoo, the less detail you can have in it. You wouldent want to pick something that is very detailed, do it that small and end up with something that looks like mush when it heals. Try a small symbol or your familys initials. Maybe if your family goes on vacation alot or has something that means alot to it you could get something to represent the time you spend togeather. Your tatoo does not have to mean anything to anyone but you and your family that you wish to represent. Maybe talk to them about it and togeather you can find something that will make you feel good every time you see it. I worked with someone once that rememberd his family by their family meals. He got a cooked ham on a platter with a serving fork sticking out of it on his foot. Yes it is weird and maybe not something that everyone would think about, but it was obscure and truly had meaning to him. Good luck and enjoy your new ink.

Honestly, your best bet will be to talk to some tattoo artists. They'd much rather have you get some original art. DO NOT GET Chinese or Japanese symbols unless you are fluent. It's just foolish.

Otherwise ask any friends of yours who draw. Just keep in mind, that small, it cannot have very much detail.

Maybe you could have your family depicted like anthropologists would - using a circle for you, a triangle for your husband, connected with an = sign, and coming from that, your four children. (see link)

Possibly a heart with four or six lines coming from it? (Since there are six of you total.)

I would suggest getting a symbol. Search on-line for Japanese or Chinese symbols that stand for Family Unity or something that represents what your Family means to you. Symbols are very clear and you can get them done in all different sizes. If you try to do something complicated or with a lot of design at the size you mentioned it might look a little messy. I know from experience. I wanted a really nice sunset picture done, but only wanted it about the size of a half-dollar (same as you) and it really didn't look like anything because we tried to fit too much into such a small space. I have since had it covered!

You could get the flowers for your birth months, or the astrological symbols (Libra, Scorpio etc). Maybe different sized hands depending on their ages that form a circle.

My friend has her husband & kids names turned into a heart and tattooed on her. So it was all their names in a line shaped into a heart. Very simple, cute, & family orientanted :)

Good Luck!

I have a small german symbol on my ankle (my husband and I are both of German decent). Maybe there are symbols for family, complete, love...whatever you are looking for. There are also flowers that symbolize those things....

You could try a heraldic shield, if you have one.
