You can litter box train or potty pad train the pup. There are also house breaking aids you can use to help. There are sprays and drops you can put in/on these areas that attract the puppy and make them want to go to the bathroom there. You can get it at a pet store or PetSmart might have it, I haven't gone there looking for it, PetCo may also have it. Good luck with new adventure with your pup.

First, get some of those disposable pads. Pick one spot (preferably non-carpeted) and lay a pad or two down on that spot. When your dog goes potty (pee or poop), pick up it's "biz" and put it on the pad. Then, take your dog over to the pad and reward it by saying "good dog" and petting it or saying a phrase that the dog associates with going potty. While your doing this, it will be important to make this spot the dog's potty spot at all times.

I taught my Italian Greyhound do this, and for not being a very bright dog, he caught on in a few days. The important thing is to have the potty pad smell like his poop or pee. Also, make sure that the potty pad is not near the place your dog sleeps. Dogs (or any mammal for that matter) don't like to lay around where they just took a dump.

dog's can be "litter" trained just like cats. i would start by placing some of the dogs poo in the area you want him to go. dogs like to go in a spot that already smells of it (you might notice your dog going in the same area outside.) any time he goes in the spot you want him to, praise him heavily. if you catch him going somewhere else say "No no!" pick him up and place him in the appropriate spot. then praise him a lot! train him exactly like you did when you taught him to go outside. he should get the idea very quickly.

Don,t be lazy. Take the dog out (that is where they are supposed to go to potty). If you have to leave the house for any reason, work etc., buy a crate and crate train him. Most dogs will not foul where they have to lay/sleep.
Good luck
