Would you still read it to them? Would you let them look at the pictures?

Jessica, I would love to e-mail you explaining why I am asking these questions, but you don’t allow it. I am curious about it because there are many religious groups trying to censor sex and violence in the media, for their children. I want to see how many of the same people have no problem with subjecting their children to sex and violence, as long as it’s biblical.
I ask my questions to solicit opinions. I try hard not to sneak in my own judgements. I would never say; because it's wrong. If I ask a question to people of a faith I don’t believe in, I put the question to a vote. I thumb up every answer. I really do not try to offend anyone; I just want to learn about what I do not understand.

Absolutely-- why not? I had an illustrated children's Bible when I was a kid and it was beautiful. Many people, especially children, are really visual learners. Having illustrations available can help them to understand the stories and concepts that you are trying to teach them.

I'd like to answer this question, but there's a lot that you're not telling us.
1) How old are the children involved? A toddler isn't much going to care about the depth of the story behind it. Just the pictures with a few explaining words should be enough.
2) Do you mean no words at all, just pictures? Or every page/book/chapter/verse has an accompanying illustration?
3) Um, why is a completely illustrated Bible all you have available? Are you in a country where is it illegal or dangerous to have a regular worded Bible?
I guess a 'sum-it-up' kind of answer would be that the message and the meaning behind the lessons to be learned from the Bible are more important than an exact word for word reading. but I still can't understand why you wouldn't be able to find an inexpensive worded Bible from SOMEWHERE. (Wal-Mart? CBD.com?)

Hm, illustrated Bibles have been around for years. And yes there are scenes of people dying in the flood, people with lions at their throats, David bashing Goliath on the head with a rock, and Jesus being beaten and bleeding on the cross. And yes many people do allow their children to look at them.
Would I, when I felt that they were old enough to understand what was going on. After all how can you honestly expect to teach a child any faith by leaving them blind to any part of it. And it would also illustrate why there are many parts of the Bible that I find "questionable" as far as being the "word of God".

I don't see why not, other than the fact that things could be easily misunderstood. For the most part though, I would stick to the basics as I told them about the stories. That way they wouldn't learn anything wrong. We have some illustrated Bibles and I think they help kids understand the stories.

Obviously, you have issue with reading the scriptures to children and are trying to convince others that it's wrong, using whatever stretch you can.
As for me, yes, I would still read it to them. They're going to see similar images anyway, might as well see them in reference to what God thinks of certain immoral acts.
And the fact is, my church puts out fully illustrated scriptures for children and my kids have copies and read them on Sundays while I'm doing other things.

What would be the point? If you are going to read the Bible to the children you would read the Bible! Not some pictures that could be related to it.

No problem. Although some of the violence depicted might be disturbing to small children. (I would not read everything to a small child anyway. I would wait till he wsa better prepared).
