Im wondering why people watch cooking programs? How do they fit into your life? Do you watch them as part of your daily routine? If you do watch them do you ever actualy cook the things your shown? If you dont watch why not? And which ones do people like most and why? xxx

Thank you everyone, its been really interesting seeing how you all interact differently with cooking programs. I asked because Im doing a presintation at uni on lifestyle TV and thought it would be interesting to talk about real viewers rather than just academic research. xxx

I watch cooking programs occasionally but not on a daily basis. Sometimes I make the recipes and other times I just steal ideas here and there. I hate eating the same dinners every week so I'm always looking for something new to cook that isn't too complicated.
"Good Eats" is fun to watch because Alton researches the history and scientific principles behind various foods and preparation methods, so it is interesting and I can use the information improve my cooking techniques. "Sam the Cooking Guy" is great because he makes really easy recipes and even if you aren't hungry you can always look forward to him burning himself or cutting his finger. "Nigella Bites" is kind of like cooking-show porn, I suspect my husband watches it in secret when I'm asleep, just to see her separate eggs with her hands or eat chocolate orgasmically. "Iron Chef" is fun because they have to cook like maniacs and come up with interesting flavor combinations. But I don't get too many recipes ideas from watching it.
I can't stand "Paula Dean's Home Cooking", that woman is a danger to herself and others. She actually made deep-fried butter balls. I do like butter, but she is way out of control. I also can't stand Emerill, I think he overdoes recipes just to pander to the audience.
A lot of cooking shows are boring. It's better when they have a good schtick beyond watching some random person cook some random recipe, again.

My thats a lot of questions! lol
I looooove cooking programmes (but not the ones where they makes cakes and sweets)
My fav is Ready steady Cook and i also like Masterchef.
RSCook is on at 4.30 so its great to sit and watch but i sometimes miss masterchef as its on when i am normally making or eating dinner. RSCook has a great host and its good to see what you can cook from several ingredients and also different variations as sometimes you end up at home doing the same recipes with the same ingredients.
I sometimes cook what they do and its funny how actually i rem quite easily.
I hope ive answered al your q. Is this a survey or you making a tv programme?????

I watch them when ever I get the chance. The idea is that it will improve my cooking and inspire me to turn out more exciting food for the family. However, I think in reality they are more of a guilt trip reminding me of just how lousy a cook I really am!

Well, I'm not a huge fan of this kind of prgms; however I tend to watch them when there is nothing else on.
It always give you little tips on certain ingredients and mixing some flavours. But I wouldn't go for their complex recipes and cooking process.
Which ones? Sorry don't know, I'm not a TV fan...

You watch this type of programe to keep the other half happy, then she says "that looks nice, I will try that" 25 years later you are still waiting to try it. This type of programe should be removed from tv, along with DIY, Home renovations, how to buy cheap and slap on a coat of paint and up the price by 10k, etc, etc.

I watch them. I do not watch them just for the recipes. I am more interested in learning how to work with certain ingredients and Prep tips. It is entertaining at the same time!

I find cooking programs very relaxing, Come Dine With Me is the best. My favourite book is Delia Smith's cook book how sad it that.
