That's just ridiculous to me, I'm sorry. I strongly believe in God, but have some issues with the Church honestly . I believe the Church really needs to evolve..I might be thinking this way because I'm 18 and many things have changed lately, like homosexuality not being such a tabu anymore etc, and as much as I have a huge faith in God, I also have faith in people. The Church can't just close its self to other cultures, religions, lifestyles...this way, it's just digging its own grave. I thought Jesus taught us to love our brothers and to respect people, Atheists or not. And how can I consider science to be a sin? I mean, that's just how it went...

Amazing closed-mindedness.
Look at the replies: it's not a sin, but why bother since we already know it's wrong. The bible is right, and (that thousands-years-old mythological mish-mash) has everything we need to know.

How are you ever going to learn anything if you never even try? If your beliefs are really so strong, what have you to fear from learning things about other subjects -- your beliefs should be able to stand up to any criticism if they're so "right."

Religious myth and superstition are perpetuated by those who close their minds to anything except that which supports their already-held beliefs. I've read the bible dozens of times -- as well as the Koran, the book of mormon, etc. -- why are you so afraid of what logic and reason have to say about the world?
So sad.

I do not think it is a sin to educate yourself on other peoples beliefs. I mean how can you have a discussion with someone about God if you do not know how they believe? You better believe most atheists no more about the bible than a lot of Christians!

Refusing to read "atheist literature" doesn't bother me nearly as much as Bible thumpers who refuse to read other scriptures such as the Koran, The Bhagavad Gita, Tao De Jing and the Upanishads!

Even if they refuse to accept these sources as scripture, they are closing their minds to outstanding resources for wisdom and insight!

I have nothing but a sneer for those who say (for example) that the Upanishads are wrong and then admit that they haven't got a clue about what they contain because they haven't read a single one!

I am a Christian and I don't think it is a sin. I think in order to understand people you need to be where they are. I have read several things that I don't necessarily agree with in order to reach people who believe as I don't. It infuriates people when you have an opinion about something that you know nothing about.

I don't consider it a sin to read the different points of views of different people.

But, I also don't waste time reading propaganda literature for any group. There is much better literature for me to spend my time studying.

Lewis' writings on Christianity however (he seems to be a favourite between modern-day apologetics) and stay unconvinced. not all atheists are hateful. In my journey, if we expect negativity we are lots extra in all probability to acquire it. attempt to ignore on the subject of the jerks and in basic terms consult from the super ones! :-)

Most of us have heard all the ilk before. and dont want it again. It is not a sin to read it and dismiss it. BUt why bother? We know we believe only what God in the Bible says. What He says, settles it for us, and thats it. We cant find that in the books you describe, as they are anti God. God tells us that anyone that goes contrary to His word, we are to flee, RUN from.
There you go.
So, no , a true Christian will have no interest in reading your books. Not from fear . But, out of Love of God and respect of God and self. Why read the devils words. I dont think so. But GOd gives choice, if thats your reading material, you sure have a right, and I dont have a right to try and talk you out of it. But, soon you will have to be fully Gods or fully NOt His at all. Never too late to change your mind. for that, all us true Christians will pray.
