It all depends on how you define "the last person."
You can't overtake the last person if YOU are the last person. Besides, you are not given the number of people in the race.
But, considering that, the "last person" is implied to be the last person 'you need to overtake'.
Therefore, if you overtake the last person, you are now in first place.

last...I've overtaken the the last position....thus making me the new loser on the board.
if i was in a race then i would be infront of the the last person...but i'm not likely racing so i don't have a postion..thus why i wasn't last in the first place.
