The 1st amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
It seems to me that marriage is, at its heart, a religious establishment. The history of marriage seems to confirm this as well. Marriage is also historically beneficial.
Is marriage unconstitutional?
If you think it's constitutional, please explain in terms of the 1st amendment.
If you think it's constitutional, please comment on what should be done.

Marriage is becoming less and less of religious union and more of a pooling of finances. It's a business arrangement, and a contract between two parties.

The first amendment does not have anything to do with marriage and it is not for any specific religion. Don't you see marriage in evey part of the world at any given time in history? Does the government force us to marry? NO. Yes it recognizes it and once you do get married it is a government contract however; it is by choice of people whom we marry, when we marry, and so on. How would you deem it unconstitutional?

Marriage is a strange institution in that it has both religious and legal ramifications. If we are to consider only the legal issues with marriage, then the only things that should be considered are estate, divorce and what legally constitutes a marriage. This has some interesting implications such as same sex marriages should be allowed, polygamy should be allowed and infidelity may or may not be a legal reason for divorce....

marriage is not only religious, but a moral ethical thing, and thats why the government recognises it.
think about it if there is no marriage no one will commit to anybody, and the whole world will be a mess, no child will know his father, (not that adultary hadnt done that already), if marriage isnt government thing then there wll be less rghts for children, no commitment from fathers, no responsibities for parents. its a whole load of mess. so i preffer it that way. nothing will be legallised about families otherwise, they will be living like strangers.
besides, it might not make a difference to those who practice whats allowed in marriage outside marriage. but to those who give marriage its position, its easier for them to understand why it should be recognised by the governemnt.

the continued misperception of the first ammendment is fueled by liberal judges and people who refuse to accept the history of the founding of this country by Christian men who openly declared their faith in public,in congress, even in the white house...these are facts that cannot be overlooked when debating the original intent of the first ammendment.
the founders of this great country opposed the establishment of any "religion" that was exclusive to the government and could be forced on its people. this does not remove the truth of God and the faith of those in government who procalimed Christ as their primary source of inspiration. this only guarantees the freedom of religion..not the removal of it .
marriage, was established by God through the union of Adam and Eve,.....adam declared a man to leave his mother and father, cleave to his wife and they will become one flesh...this is is the blessing of God who gave the edict to go forth and multiply. this is the truth of Gods love for His children that they shall not be alone. Marraige, between one man and one woman is not only historical but the very act of a loving God, its covenant is not warranted by any law or amendment and it is by itself the type of the Covenant God made to His creation....
seek Him and you shall find life...amos 5:4...†

the government will not recognize a marriage unless the participants (one male and one female) obtain a marriage license issued by a governmental agency.
