You will find she is right although it is good of you to consider others!

You can carry a child of any age in the front seat of any vehicle, provided they wear a seat belt or proper child restraint. A child under three must sit in an appropriate car seat. A driver can be prosecuted if a child under 14 is not wearing a seat belt.

New legislation which means children up to the age of 12 or 135cms (approximately 4ft 5ins) must continue to use a child car seat or booster

Hope this helps :-)))

These examples will help you to decide whether a child is subject to the new rules or not:

A 7 year old boy who is 120 cms tall must use a child restraint - he is under the height limit.

A 9 year old girl who is 140 cms tall is over the height for a child restraint and may use an adult seat belt - she is over the height limit.

A 12 year old boy who is 130 cms tall is over the age threshold and therefore may use an adult belt - he is over the age limit.

Hope this helps.

I have always understood you must be 12 before you can sit in the front regardless of a booster cushion being used.

Depends on what State you're at. Make a phone call to the DMV.
