I would say English since it seems like its becoming a 2nd language in America.
Certainly, being bilingual is becoming more important in this increasingly shrinking world.
One of the most in demand languages to learn is Farsi. Both the CIA and the FBI need people to translate and speak this language.
Any Middle Eastern language, and all European languages, French, Italian, German, Russian. Don't forget Chinese, Japanese and Korean and Vietnamese.
Everyone says the most in demand is Spanish. I think you should consider other languages that may land you jobs with international firms that pay the big bucks.
Check out the Fortune 500 companies and see where their corporate headquarters and satellite offices are located. Global interaction isn't a trend and it will only become more prevalent.
I cannot tell you what school is best for you, but i would say that if you're still in high school, talk to your guidance counselor and perhaps the head of the foreign languages department as to where the best school for you is. Good luck.

Spanish is the most ubiquitous foreign language in the USA, but in certain areas it would be more helpful to know Japanese, Korean, or Chinese. I would check out the demographics of the area you plan on living in, or the field you plan on working in.
