It is true that you say Shiva is the destroyer. But he isn't a ruthless destroyer, going on a rampage....he, in Hindu Mythology, is the destroyer of evil. An important example is the destruction of the first world of evil, when he danced the dance of destruction in the form of Nataraja, traditionally accorded to the town of Chidambaram, in Tamil Nadu, where there is a grand temple to his honour.
The god who takes away life is actually Yama or also known as Dharma (Justice) or Dharmaraja (King of Justice). He is depicted as a heavy built dark man on a water buffalo with a noose in his hand to drag the soul of the deceased to eternity. He is the son of Surya, the sun god.

He is the formless, timeless and spaceless Supreme God in Shaivism. Adi Sankara interprets the name Shiva meaning "One who purifies everyone by the utterance of His name" or "the Pure One". The name Shiva is the Holiest of Holy names. The Good Lord is beyond and unaffected by the three gunas (characteristics) of Prakrti (matter/nature) namely Satva, Rajas, and Tamas.

In Smarta traditions, Lord Shiva exists as one of three aspects of God, Trimurti. In the Trimurti, Rudra, another name for Shiva, is the Destroyer, and Brahma is the Creator and Vishnu is the Preserver. Shiva, in Shaivism, does everything; He is the Creator, Sustainer and Dissolver. All other Hindu Gods and Goddess are part of the One Lord Shiva. According to Shaivism, the Good Lord Shiva performs five functions: 1. Creator, 2. Preserver, 3. Destroyer of evil, 4. Reprieving us from the sins, and 5. Blessing. The fifth function is considered to be the most important of all.

A Shaivite view contends that Shiva produces Vishnu who produces Brahma and thus creation began, within which the cycle of the Trimurti exists. Shiva also assumes many other roles, including the Lord of Ascetics (Mahadeva, or the Great God), the Lord of Boons (Rudra, or The Howler - rud-iti rudra), and also the Universal Divinity (Maheshvara, the Great Lord).Shaivaites, the worshippers of Shiva consider Shiva as the Ultimate Reality (see Ishta-Deva for fuller discussion).

Shiva is usually represented by the Shiva linga (or lingam), usually depicted as a clay mound with three horizontal stripes on it, or visualised as a blazing pillar. In anthropomorphised images, he is generally represented as immersed in deep meditation on Mount Kailash, his traditional abode. Shiva is also worshiped by believers around the world. The faith was bought by the Aryans expanding under phrase "Krunvanto Viswam Aryan."

There is monotheism ultimately, in hinduism according to great saints and hindu philosophers.
Only one God with three phases like a prism is Parmathma. Brahma is the creator, (one side of the God), Vishnu is the sustainer, and Shiva is the destroyer.
Parmathma is Aananta, aananda the supreme clean soul which will again absorb all the souls of the universe at the end. And only THAT will remain for ever.

Shiva means welfare. "Brahma creates religion, Vishnu supervises and pays to the worthy followers, and Shiva is the savior of the followers by destroying the evil. A real human welfare service indeed. Will you Send me crore rupees for this explanation? Just joking. Bye.

It is either some disease, ailment or accident that takes away life. I haven't seen Shiva or any other God doing that. Also, it is mostly the "Mothers" who give birth to us and make us live in this world. The rest are all myths!!!

hmma is said to be the creator, the vishnu is said tobe the sustainer and "shiva is said to be the lord of annihilation. Lord krsihna in bhaagavad -gita has shown to Arjuna at his request the true form of god in his totality.krsihna said that no one can see his true form through any penance or veda or any thing .So he gave him a special divine eye to see his form.the divine eye is nothig but the greatest wisdom- the eye of wisdom that is usually known as the Eye of Gnana .so it is only through the higest wisdon ome h=can see god .so saying ,he reveals to him the boundless , shapeless space with all the glactic mater in it with all the galaxies , the stars and planets etc in he process of annihilation.Arjuna was agahast at the boundless form of the lord of lords with all the planets stars and all lives in his body and the planets and stars falling into his fiery flaming mouth like roiling waters falling into the sea and flies falling into the flame .Here the description of the god is of the shape of theunierse and that is why it is called the Viswa Roopa (Viswam =the unverse and Roopam = is shape-image ) noohter philosophy in th eworld says that the space and the universe with all its contnets are the totality of the God . the process of annihilation is vividly described as seen in hemind of Arjuna .the planets and stars fall into the fiery flaming mouyth of krsihna .this is the formation of the black hole or white dwrf when a star grows bigger as its fuel is exhausted and it pulls into itself all the galctic matter around it and undergoes an internal nuclear reaction as a dormant invisible entity - the black hole for a thopusand eaon to re-emerge as a new universe .. This annihilation stage is represented by Lord shiva with fire in one hand and the double drum in anoher making tremendous noice of impact of the planets and his dancing posture of destructive action. Lord shiva is not just the killer of human beings .he has created the lord of death for that .Yama dharma Raj.That is the the dispense of the rule of Justice . he takes away the life of the individual at the appropriate time to enable them to reincarnate or to free them from the cycles of birth and death..
Kaalam is time .Kaalan is the personification of time .Yama dharma has Kaalan as his agent (servant ) to fetch the soul of the indiviual as his lease on the earth expires .So time at its culmination takes the3 life of an individual to the world of the dispense of the rule of justice , to enabel the soul to be boren again according to its karma or to be released once for all from the cycles of birth and death.andmerged with the paramatma .
So these philosophies are only an expalantion of the happenings in the universe and our life ..
What I have said above is also not all comprehensive .it is a simplification of the process of life and dethand he naure of the unierse .the scriptures tell them in a n elaborate manner that it is not easy to comprehend them in full.More so the processes described are perfectly in co=nformity with the findings of modern scientific research in cosmology.the description of the space and the fact of its being an entity in itself and the most incomprehensible factor of space being boundless and how and what makes it boundless is somehting that even modern science has yet unravel.
so lord shiva is not a killer od individual human beings ;but a priciple of annihilation of the entire universe. Lord shiva is said to havb eprotected many from death at the hands of Yama dharma also and has granted the boon of dethlessness to manyof his devotees against natuer and Lord vishnu has had to eleiminate such deathless persons by some hook or crook since the beneficiaries of the boon, went around killing and destroying people .
