Yes, I'd say that was very rude. You should have said something to the management.

I decided some time ago, if i ever own a restaurant or a movie theater, I'm going to hire an electrical engineer to work with the Architect for the sole purpose of making cell phones not work indoors.
From experience, I do know that confronting the person does work most of the time. Get in close so they can hear you well, then just politely say at the top of your voice " Do you know how impolite it is to talk on the phone while everyone else is here to see a movie?" Then while everyone else in the theater is clapping, tell the person that you are going to get the manager, if you hear another peep, and walk away.
Yes, I really have done this on a few occasions, and have had clapping each time. Have only had to follow through with the management once.

Oh my goodness, it must be something about Chinese restaurants because something similar happened to me the other night. There was a family who had just bought new phones and were showing off their ring tones. We just glared at them until they realized they weren't the only ones in the place; then they stopped. Normally I would've grabbed a server and asked them to step in, but I was in a glare-y mood.

I'll admit, my husband and I have a habit of playing with ringtones when we're waiting on our food in arestaurant.. However, we have the courtesy to turn the volume down so it's not disturbing people around us.
I think that if you ever feel really bothered by people around you, due to something they're doing.. you should say something to your server, and ask them to do something. I must say though, I'm surprised they didn't have them stop.. a lot of places don't deal with people acting that way.

I agree with you, that was rude. I would of gone to the manager and put in a complain. I hate it when you are in walmart or winn dixie and they are talking on the phone real loud and standing in the middle of the aisle or doorway and will not move for you. or when they are driving and talking on the phone and driving all over the place. one time I thought this man was drunk because he was driving like he was, I backed away and found out he was talking on the phone. if my phone rings, I let it ring and let them talk into the answering machine or I pull over to answer it, if I can.

Did any one working at the restaurant come to your rescue? No,I know the answer to that one.I really think that when teens are being ridiculous in a public place that workers should try to calm them down. The truth is that they are afraid to approach the teens. If it were a drunk or overly loud adult making the scene, they would have been approached....We all deserve to have our meal in quiet and no rudeness...But I know that is a dream.

certainly. The cellular telephone rudeness phenomenon has gotten way, way uncontrolled. human beings walk and tension around with telephones the two held to the ear, or worse. clipped on by skill of way of Bluetooth, and so on and that they don't pay interest to what they're doing. it is ridiculous once you notice somebody in front of you making use of 40 mph and you comprehend they're on the telephone, or whilst they're sitting in a cafe eating and yakking on the telephone. And what precisely is the objective of the clip-on? "i'm way too lazy to hold a telephone to my ear"? Or "i'm so significant and so busy that i prefer the two arms to multi-job mutually as I communicate on the telephone" ? and that i completely consider bluffmike. This rant is now over. We now return you to a commercial for Verizon instantaneous.

Even though I agree with you on principle that it is inappropriate to engage in such behavior we have to remembr that these are teenagers and haven't developed that area of their brains responsible for correct self-restraint and that a restaurant ( unless it's a private supper club or such ) is a public place. The restaurant does reserve the right to control such behavior and refusae service to whomever THEY choose.

You should have said something to them or to your server. Cell phones should not be allowed to ring in restaurants.
