Look, I personally think the law is too general on this issue. I see nothing wrong with an 15y.o. dating a 17y.o. cos let's face it, it's only 2 years of a difference. But the law says that when he turns 18, it's not OK anymore (statuatory rape it is called) but it is a bit crazy (yes I acknowledge the importance of the law when a girl is 15 and the guy is 43 or the other way around). So, that's the legal side: if they want to be together once he turns 18, they will have to careful (or no hanky panky). But in general, I think the grades do not matter, the age does not matter, it is the people that matter and how they ionteract with each other. If they enjoy each other's company and have fun together, then I give it a green light!

I'm not sure about it being "wrong", but I'd certainly question both his motives and his maturity. There is a huge difference between a high school freshman and a high school senior. Of course, as the older and more mature of the two, there is definitely a power thing going on psychologically--no matter HOW "nice" he is.
As I've seen many, many, many abusive relationships over the years, I've noticed certain recurrent themes amongst abusers and potential abusers. One that always sets my alarm bells off is when there is a large difference in maturity and in power. I'm afraid all my alarms are going off on this one. Not that this boy is particularly abusive, BUT he definitely shows the potential to be that way in his choice to date someone considerably younger, less experienced, less mature, less socially powerful etc. The next step is to encourage her to avoid her current friends in favor of his own. I'd be very very careful in encouraging this sort of pattern of behavior.

I don't think that it really matters what grade, the age is more important. Those two are only two years apart, so there's really not anything wrong with it. If it was a BIG age difference it would all depend on the maturity of the two, and making sure that the older person isn't trying to pressure the younger one into doing something that they don't want to.

I dated a freshman when I was a junior...we were cool but in the end we really didn't have much in common b/c age did come into play...I had a later curfew, was looking at colleges, was driving, had a job. Where as she had little responsibility and damn she couldn't even see a rated R movie so high school is a difference but when you're in college then it's whatever...

its not really the number of years, but the diff b/w 15 and 17 or 18. First of all, you change every year during that time, it is such a crucial period in someones life. Think about how much you changed b/w 15 and 17. Also, once he hits 18, he has to think about the legal ramifications.

I don't think it's that big of an age difference, if they're both in highschool then its not that big of a deal. Its the year after that she will have to worry about though, when he graduates and goes on to college. Then there might be a few problems. =)

don't worry about it! it just seems liek a big difference because the girl is 15...but if she was a little older, with the same age difference as the guy, it would not seem like such a big deal! it just may seem unusual since probably most 15 year olds are dating others of the same age.

It's more about age in this situation- two years isn't a big difference. It would be much more creepy if a 14 year old was dating a 18 or 19 year old.

Not that big of age difference difference, just grade. It is considered "cool" for a senior to date a freshman though, so tell your friend to be careful. He could have her more as a status symbol than a real love interest.

Well theres going to be a problem with him being 18-19 and her being 16-17 but other then that its just highschool.
Once you graduate highschool, you look back on it and laugh.
