I joined a gym near my job, which involves sitting at a desk for the better part of 8 hours a day. I want to lose weight and tone up, so when should I visit the gym: before work (around 8am), during lunch (around 1pm), or after work (around 5:30pm). Thanks!

If you can workout any of those times, I'd recommend morning. Your workout will energize you for the day, and boost your metabolism for a bit. If you can workout morning and evening, that's even better...more workouts = more calories burned!

I like morning workouts best also because then it's out of the way. If I have the time/desire to workout again later in the day, I can but I don't have to feel guilty if I don't, because I've already gotten in at least one workout (in the morning). Also, at least for me, there is less chance of me being tempted to skip my morning workout because there's not anything else going on for me during that time of day (I get up at 5:30am and workout), whereas in the evening I might be tempted to skip it to go out and do something with friends, or watch a favorite TV show, or any other number of things that could become excuses.

For those whose schedules are crazy, ANY time you can squeeze in a workout is better than not doing any at all. ☺

I think that the morning is the best time. It gets your motabolism working earlier, you are burining calories earlier in the day. think of it as a head start on the day. You will actually have more energy and it will last longer while you are at work. My next choice would be at lunch to give you that extra little boost. Leave the evening to your self. Cook a nice dinner and relax. Always make time for yourself. Good luck and have fun. What ever works best for you will be the one that you are more likely to stick with for the long haul.

I think it is all about personal preference. If you prefer to work out in the morning and get it out of the way, then do that. Alot of times after work, you will feel tired, and not want to go, if you are like me.

I would think during lunch would be difficult bc I would feel rushed.

PS - you are not supposed to work out 2 hours before you go to sleep, so don't go too late!

First thing in the morning is my absolute favorite time to work out (and I never was a morning person at all until I started doing that). It gives me energy all day and I love the fact that, I already "got it over with", lol. I've noticed my metabolism seems to work faster when I work out in the morning also. Anytime is good though, choose a time that you know you will stick with. Good luck!!

Theres not really a right time to workout, just not too late. I tend to workout in the morning after breakfast because, thats when you will have the most energy and will give your body the most time to recover throughout the rest of the day. = )

Join the club...I'm in the same boat. I work out during the evening. It's the best time for me. It gives me a restful sleep and I wake up feeling more revive.
