I have really dark, almost black, natural hair color. I have dyed my hair red and brown in the past. What can I do to turn my hair light brown or dark blonde? Should I go to a beautician? How much would it cost?

You should go to a beautician since the home hair dyes are really only designed to lighten hair by no more than 2 shades. If you bleach your hair you could end up frying it since home bleaching kits are so much more harsh than what your stylist will use.

I'm not brave enough to go from dark to all blonde yet so I'm phazing it in. Every 6 weeks I go to my stylist and have blond highlights put in (which costs me about $60 a shot) and each time I have her increase the amount of blonde.

This way, turning blonde it's not such a shocker to me, it's less maintenance than going all blonde, and if I start to see that being blonde isn't really for me I can stop where I like it. Good luck!

I have to go along with the others, go to a beautician. I have a brownish color of hair and I tried to make it blond once. It turned to the most awful shade of red you have ever seen. You can try sun in or lemon to lighten a little but for drastic changes you need a pro.

Lightening hair can be tricky, I wouldn't recomment that you do it yourself the first time. Go and have a consultation with a stylist, talk to them and see what they think. Cost depends on the salon to be honest, ask about prices when you go for you consul.
