I woud imagine it is due to excessive restrictive environments and is an expression of rebellion. Nothing is sweeter than what is forbidden. There are higher incidences of alcholism, abuse,DUI etc in religious groups that forbid these activities. A repressive sexual environment creates an atmosphere that brings on rebellion.

How many different kinds of religion can there be? To the best of my knowledge Jesus Christ taught only one truth and that was what his father taught him. An accurate knowledge of the truth can be found by a progressive study of the bible. Remember the Ethiopian Eunuch that was riding along in a chariot and Philip was asking him, "Do you really know what you are reading?" He replied "How could I really, if I did not have someone to help me."
An understanding of the bible can be found by a comparative study of the scriptures, which back each other up, and help to get the true meaning. There are real answers to questions in the bible and they are not mysteries that no one can know. If someone is truly trying to follow what Christs teachings are then they will be doing the best that they can do in transfering this to their children. However, he did give all people freedom of choice and the oportunity to choose who they will follow. There are two paths; what Jesus taught, and what Satan influenced man to believe which was that they could have and do anything that they wanted to do and that it would not effect them. He said that if they ate the fruit that they would not die in effect calling Jehovah God a liar since he had told Adam and Eve that they would die if they did this thing. Man has the inclination to do what is appealing to his desires instead of following the direction of their heavenly father who created them and knows what they need. Since the first sin and human imperfection entered into the picture this is what man has been fighting, his own human imperfection. With help of holy spirit and the right heart condition anyone can change his life if he so desires.
So I guess my answer is that all religions do not follow Christs teachings, and we at present have human imperfection to deal with. It is through our hope through Christs ransom sacrifice that we have an opportunity for everlasting life but it is up to us to make the right choice and be educated about Christ's teachings.
As far as the prison statistics concerning Jehovah's Witnesses I wonder how many of them in prison learned the truth while they were there? That is not being presumptuous and saying that none of them can fall short because they can, but to say that as part of Christ's teachings that no one be left out and not be given an oportunity to learn. Men from within the congregation regularly go inside the prison walls to have study's with those who are interested in learning. Interestingly the number of incarcerated Witness's is low.
Jesus taught that each one is responsible for his own choices and that is true of children and adults. One can grow up in a home of correct teachings or none at all and you can bet that if a person's heart condition is right and he truly seeks the truth, Jehovah will find a way to help him on the correct path. The invitation in the bible to "come take of lifes water free" still stands true today.

Those issues are due to Satan working through society and people. The Christian parents instill the knowledge of the word in their children. Unfortunately, children can only be children so long. There will come a time when each individual will have to make a decision. For each decision made, a result will follow. Don't fall to the ignorance of Satan. Wake up.

The interesting view of this is the relative per capita incarceration.
I haven't looked them all up- but
Catholics represent 26% of the US and 39% of those incarcerated. So- Catholics are 50% more likely to be incarcerated than the average american.
Jehovah's Witnesses represent 0.7% of the population and 0.9% of those incarcerated.
Although this list is perhaps a bit suspect- as apparently there are no Baptists or Methodists in prison? Or are these denoted as protestants?

And you are able to quantify this how exactly?
Are you aware that very secular Dr. Spock, the father of modern parenting experts ... the brilliant guy who said let kids do whatever the heck they want, because if you don't, you'll be stifling them ... recanted and accepted responsibility for the rebelliousness of recent generatons that were raised by his guidelines.
Religious upbringin will teach proper morals and behavior. It is the rebellion against the rules that is the issue.

Obviously the question you are responding to is just as unfair as this question.
Delinquent and immoral behavior is much more linked to broken homes than any religion or lack of religion.
oh - as far as the prison stats go, you should compare those to the stats of how many conversions happen in those prison walls...it's amazing how many people will suddenly get pious just before a paroll hearing.

I was previously aware of those stats, and have quoted them in response to a number of questions similar to the one in the link.
The question posted by Infamous is typical of the self-serving ignorance exhibited by believers. Remember that stats and evidence are largely disregarded by some of them. So why would she have bothered to check that her question was based on facts?
To answer your question. I believe that the reason is a rebellion against all the "Thou shalt not's" that are forced into their heads all their lives.
I'm not referring to those that are common sense... ("Don't try seduce your sister"), nobody wants to rebel against those. I'm referring to those that don't seem to make common sense... ("Don't look over the wall when the neighbor's hot daughter is sunbathing topless... because the Bible says so!") ;o)
It seems that Christian parents simply force their kids to behave in a specific way because that is what they believe the Bible tells them to do. It also seems to be extremely ineffective.

I saw that question last week and had a good laugh...
In answer... My teenage son's "church going" friends are far more promiscuous and rebellious than his atheist and agnostic friends.
Just an observation...
