Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it. Eph. 5:25

Basically, husbands should be giving their lives for their wifes. We should love them, take good care of them, pray for them, encourage them, and pay attention to them everyday.

Husbands are to treat their wives as Christ treated the church... (Ephesians 5:25)

Husbands are to devote all their power to lifting the wives up spiritually, so they can be representations of what is good & pure in the world. Husbands are to sacrifice for their wives and ensure they are satisfied and blossoming in the eyes of God. If not, the husbands will be held accountable for them. This is mainly due to the fact that God has a system of hierarchy, and the head of the home has to answer for the disfunction in the home. It is the husband's responsibility that the wife is lifted up.

A husband has been given the ominous task (command) to love his wife as Christ loved the church. This is a command that no husband is able, by his own strength, to perform. Christ loved the church (His people) and gave himself up for her. He laid down His life for her. He went to the cross for her. Why, why, why? Because He loved her. The Bible also says, John 15:13 -
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

It is more palatable to focus on women keeping silent and the legality of submission. This is easy (maybe and maybe not) in contrast to "loving your wife as Christ loved the church". We often leave out, "submitting ourselves one to another in the fear of God". The Lord's body has no Jew nor Greek, bond or free, male or female...Christ is everything. "Love" takes the preeminence over all the "do's and don'ts". "The greatest of these is love".

I Timothy 2:10-15
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety;not with broiderd hair, or gold, or pearls or costly array; But (which becometh women professing Godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adma was not deceived, but the owman was being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding, she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Sounds great to be a woman, doesn't it?

There are more that discuss treating your wife as you would your own body. A bit nicer, but...

Honey, you should be one of many.

Gen 28:8 Esau already had several wives, but he realized at last how much his father hated the Canaanite women.

but in the NT

Eph 5:33 So each husband should love his wife as much as he loves himself, and each wife should respect her husband.

1Th 4:4 Respect and honor your wife.

But that's paul's teachings, not Jesus'.

If we just focus on the NT

1 Corinthians 11:3: "...Christ is the head of every man, and a husband the head of his wife, and the head of Christ is God. (NIV)"

1 Corinthians 14:34-35: "...women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says, If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."

1 Corinthians 11:7-9:"For a man...is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head."

"Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

Timothy1 chapter 2

"Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord......
wives should submit to their husbands in EVERYTHING."

Ephesians 5: 22:24

"Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner" Peter 3:7
