~Aloha~From personal experience, I recommend Maui, Hawaii. I lived there for one year and visited the other major islands. Maui has a bit of everything. The island is a cozy size and yet you can utterly get lost there if you choose to. There is plenty to do at night & day both. Mother nature offers a wide range of outdoor activities and the hotels are fantastic! You may swim with the dolphins, visit the night clubs, hang with the hippies, surf the waves, go for a hike in the crater of a volcano, bathe in a secluded waterfall, sip your tropical fruit juice by the beach, discover a hidden cave...or hop off the tour bus and snap some photos! You can rent a house and car to easefully drive yourself to the most beautiful and pleasurable of places. A truely magical island! A word of caution: Please treat mother nature with care. She does not like trash thrown about and neither to the locals! Hope this helps. Have a great time!! p.s. the Spyglass Inn in Paia is a very nice B&B. http://spyglassmaui.com/

If you will be there 7 days or less, stick to one island so that you don't spend a lot of your time going back and forth to the airport. If you are there 2 weeks, 2 islands would be good. Which island depends on what you want. Shops and people watching? Go to Waikiki. Sitting around on the beach all day? Try Maui. Hiking over lava and in rain forests? Maybe the Big Island. Total isolation and no services? Try Molokai.

Having been to both Hawaii & Paris, my question to you two, is what kind of things do you like to do? Because a trip to Hawaii and a trip to Paris are vastly different experiences.

In my opinion, you get more bang for the buck visiting Maui. Maui, while not as urban and crowded as Oahu, has all the conveniences of large cities such as restaurants, shops, etc.
Also, Maui is a very diverse island so you can maximize your Hawaiian experience:
- See a tropical rain forest driving the Hana highway.
- See a real black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park.
- Go swim under a waterfall at the Pools of Oheo
- See a 400' tall waterfall upclose at Pipiwai trail
- Hike inside an arid vocano crater in Haleakala
- Go snorkeling at many great beaches throughout the island
- See miles of undeveloped land near Kaupo
- Hike along the coast through a lava field at LaPerouse Bay
- Enjoy cool, lush upcountry, go to a local winery in Ulupalakua and dine at the Kula Lodge.
Enjoy!

if you are looking for a paradise vacation and you are already on the mainland, i would recommend just visiting a nice resort on the coast of your choice. save yourself from a trip halfway around the world and get a better deal on the mainland. everything here in hawaii is overpriced.
but if you must come here, oahu is urban. if you need constant entertainment, that's the place to go. for relaxation, you could come here and just stay at a nice resort or just visit another island that is more natural wildlife and beauty.

I'm a fan of Maui. Beautiful beaches, not as crowded as Ouahu, and fairly reasonably priced.
I'd choose Paris over Hawaii if I had the money though.

I would recommend Hawaii or the "Big Island".
Its cool going to Volcanoes National park and seeing Kilauea volcano erupt from a distance.
