The mayor is the executive head of the city or town. He supervises the day to day activities of the local government offices and see to it that local laws are being folowed.

What does a Mayor do? Here in New Jersey, pretty much whatever he wants.

Seriously, he is the chief executive of a municipality (city, town, township, village, borough, etc.), just as a Governor is of a State and the President is of the country. I'm not sure what the derivation of the word is, although the term exists in Britain.

Depends on the municipality. Washington DC has a strong mayor form of government and therefore is the CEO. In a city like Charlotte NC, the major decisions are made by the City Manager who handles thousands of employees and leaves the Mayor free to run public meetings, kiss babies and yes..try to get re-elected so they can take more tax payer paid trips out of town.

A mayor usually is part of the City Council, so he does perform the duty presiding over meetings. A good Mayor represents your town at events, such as parades. He meets with business, other government entities, gives inspirational speeches. And usually gets to eat alot of free meals!

very cute; but all of these people, in one form or another govern. The Mayor is the CEO of the corporate entity which is the City. A president does not PRESIDE as such unless you are talking about a corporation.

was this a legitigmate question?

In some cities he does anything he wants, take the Mayor of New Orleans for example.

Every time he goofs, he blames the Federal Government for his mistakes.

We have to fault the fools who live in New Orleans for electing him as their Mayor.

The job of a Mayor is the same as all other elected politicians.

To get re-elected.
