We are putting together a debate in my earth science class, and my group is against placing a nuclear power plant in a neighborhood. Any factual information is greatly appreciated!

Here's a few points:

1) The ever-present threat of a nuclear disaster. The links at the bottom will help, most notably Chernobyl. I don't know how old you are, but the images on the last link can be a little disturbing. But if you're looking to win the debate, a couple of pictures of nuclear accident victims will no doubt tug at the heartstrings of the audience. All you have to do is call it: "What if....."

2) Nuclear power plants are a potential target of international terrorists; their goal, of course, is to instigate a nuclear accident.

3) Nuclear power plants are not very pleasing to the eye. Everybody knows what they look like, and they're damn ugly. Neighborhood land value will noticeably decrease.

Fish in the local waterways have a mutant 3rd eye.

(seriously, if you throw this into your debate, you'll get points for using humour + the rest of the class will be more likely to vote for you cos humour will make you more interesting to listen to.)
