When either of my sons visits I go back with them and help with the driving if asked.....a ten hour trip into the middle of the desert .I try to help with a bit (only a bit) of organisation and leave by bus or plane after a short stay so politely not to over stay my welcome. I am still invited so my help is appreciated. I wondered what other parents do?

my kids are only 5,6 and 10 but when I do something for them they say "Thank you mommy" and give me a hug and a kiss. It's enough for me

Well, my child is 12 years old, so there's no traveling from one home to the other right now. She's always been good at thanking me for things. Occasionally she'll begin to take things for granted, but she usually comes around. I guess it's part of the growing and learning process. The two of us volunteer at a soup kitchen and I think that helps her realize that she is blessed with what she has. (-:

It sounds like you are doing just fine. Especially by not overstaying your welcome. Remember that part once they are married. (I assume they are single)

We need more parents like you out there.
